Bat Wars: Tigers happy with switch from Easton to DeMarini
Freshman sensation Seth Beer turned a 1-2 slider into a rocket to right-center Sunday afternoon, the ball disappearin g over the wall near the DeMarini logo in right field. His grand slam, hit with a DeMarini bat, was the second homer of the day for a Clemson player as the Tigers took two out of three from Maine in the opening series of the season. Full Story » |

For every 30 feet you hit the Demarini it catapults the ball 10 feet more, that could be significant on the Homerun side! The ball just jumps off those bats! As a former player and umpire, if I had a choice the Demarini is definitely up there!
The ball jumps off those so fast, I have seen players get hurt when getting eat up by the balls!

golf clubs is a good analogy.
Different bats have different "sweet spots". Also trampoline effect is somewhat different, but most bats go right up to the BBCOR limit (can't have too high of a trampoline effect for safety). A lot of hitters don't like Eastons because the sound of the bat, has more of a dead sound. Demarinis usually are more end weighted from what I've seen, better for power hitters vs contact (harder for someone with strength/bat speed issues to get the barrel through fast enough). My kids play middle school and high school, is interesting to see what the "hot" bat year to year is. 2-3 years ago was Easton Mako, recently has been the Rawlings 5150, but the Louisville Slugger Prime seems to be hot this year.
But yeah, a lot of times is personal pref

They got left in the dust by Rawlings and DeMarini after the switch though. Glad Clemson finally made the change to a better bat.

They're probably allowed to use any of the BBCOR certified bats, but the CF8 is considered their top-of-the-line bat so I would guess that's what they're all using.

My guess is Lee has a good relationship with the Demarini sales rep, and gets a higher incentive ($$$) from Wilson, than from its competitors... Nothing wrong with that, but I don't think a bat change is going to have any impact in on field performance
If you grew up using another brand, you won't like the switch
If you grew up using Demarini, you love the switch
Its more of a look good, feel good, play good, type of thing. At the end of the day, a bat is a bat.

You could say that about golf balls

Titleist isn't the highest rated ball in golf, but it's the most used ball on the PGA tour because they pay the most sponsorship dollars.

At least they have the choice of orange or purple bats this season.
I know this is fashionista-ish, but it's just a better look to use "team-colored" bats.

The difference between bats is mostly weighting and feel. A lot of tigers use the voodoo (alloy barrel, comp handle) as well as the CF8 (composite handle, composite barrel). Easton bats are a little more balanced than the end loaded Demarini, which help you to throw the barrel more so than the balanced bats. Louisville slugger, Rawlings, and Easton are all less end loaded than the Demarini. The A2000 gloves are also far nicer than the Easton gloves. So overall it seems the switch has worked, but overall quality isn't incredibly different from Easton, they're just a different feel with their thinner handles and bigger barrels.

We used to use Easton... Now we use DeMarini, the players are happy with them, but some players are used to another type. In the last three World Series, different teams used different bats. Lee use DeMarini at CoC, and wanted to use them here. I mean, I felt like I didn't learn anything except that we have new bats. Odd article.
