Never understood why Watson re-upped

After the first several years with O’Brien and then the absolute bonehead move with nuk. But he did. And now he’s just figuring out the trainwreck in Houston? And wants out?
I don’t get the timing. I don’t think he looks good.
I get it. Players league. He can just sit with 30 million or whatever in the bank.
No dog in the fight just an ugly situation being handled poorly on both sides.

I'm sure it was not viewed as a train wreck by somebody in management obviously(even though you and I hear the Nuk trade and realize they are insane) I'd also imagine his agent was his guiding force. He's always been so mild mannered that this is his business side we haven't seen-or at least I haven't. FWIW, I think reworking his contract in good faith so he can go to another team would be the best. However, any good faith is now gone. It , like most NFL deals, would be complicated. You have to get a 2nd team interested(not a problem) with the money and CAP room to make it happens. I think DeShaun was not used to having to deal with liars as Dabo is straight up. I don't think we even want to know what goes on behind closed NFL doors

I mean this may not be the most popular opinion, or moral way of doing business, but... When you're playing pro football, you grab the bag when its presented to you. They backed up the brinks truck and DW4 drove it away. As he should have. In the pros, you're one ACL away from never getting another pay check. Grab the dough when its presented to you and figure the rest out later. Especially in DW4's case, the team is gonna bleed you dry of everything you have physically, may as well line those pockets.

But there was a window after Nuk got traded prior to the contract where he would have been the top free agent in football. He could have named the place and the price. But didn't. Signed with the Texans? I scratched my head at the time. Now he's buried in this mess.
No worries. He'll leverage his way out. I just never understood why he chose this path.

He could have shown his butt, but he couldn't have signed with anyone. He wasn't a free agent. He was only two years in to his rookie deal when they hit him with the extension.

Agree with the idea of getting paid now before a possible injury. He’s been at the top or the top sacked QB for every year in the league. I’ll offer three more words to also sign the extension... “no trade clause.”

Well they would have put the franchise tag on him. I thought he was wrong to stay but it’s hard to turn down all that guaranteed money. Now it looks like he will get his cake and eat it too. Good for him.

It's called money, he got his payday. He doesn't look bad at all, they asked him for his input, then ignored his input. Probably the last straw kinda situation.

From what i gather on the situation they promised to ask

for his input and then just didn't. He learned of the GM hire on twitter. They promised him input back on contract signing day and then basically conveniently forgot they offered that. So he learned less than one year later that he was lied to by those he trusted. I don't think the deal was to hire whoever Deshaun picks but i think it was a gentlemen's agreement to seriously consider his input as if he was a partner. Instead they just reneged and figured "ah, he'll get over it." Well that sure has backfired.
He's still a very young player and after winning the passing title this year his value is as high as its been. Strike while the iron is hot.

Are you completely unaware of the franchise tag in the NFL?

Deshaun grabbed both the money and the leverage by locking in and delivering the goods on the field. With the "no trade" clause in his contact, he is now in the ultimate position of strength vs. the worst organization in football. If the Texans don't comply and try to punish him, it will further tarnish their brand among players.
Do you get it now?
Another comment: Even among locals here in Houston, none of us saw the team completely collapsing out of the gate. Neither did the players.
Don't worry, DW4 is in a very good place right now and will be in an even better place after they trade him to a team of HIS choosing.
