I made it a point on the tenth anniversary to show video

Sep 11, 2022, 7:24 AM

footage of the day to my younger child, so that he would know what the adults were talking about when we say "Nine/Eleven". You are correct, that day should NEVER be forgotten.

And, there is a place near Shanksville, Pennsylvania that is Holy Ground in the War Against Terror, as well. I hope to get to visit the Flight 93 Memorial before I leave this world.

It would have been much worse without those heroes on Flight 93. The day lives on vividly in my mind. I was in my office at Clemson when we found out about the WTC. We were allowed to watch the unfolding events on the TV in the Union. Students from the area in NY were trying to get any information--upset because they could not reach family and friends.

My older brother was in the Pentagon. They were on lockdown

Sep 11, 2022, 7:58 AM

for several hours after the plane hit there, I knew he was working somewhere around there, but did not know he was actually there until after the fact. Just goes to show how far away a terrorist attack can have effects.

One of our student employees who graduated 3-4 years prior to 9/11 worked at the Pentagon. She was never allowed to tell where she worked, what she did, or give any details. All I know is that she survived, thankfully.

I was a freshman at Clemson getting ready to head to class when we saw the news of the first plane and saw on live broadcast the second plane make impact. I Can still remember the feelings of terror and helplessness. I will definitely never forget.

We live on Long Island and have a daughter, son in-law, and several other family members that are Clemson alum. At that time, I worked in an office building in Nassau County (about 25 miles away from the Towers). It was a clear day and was able to see the Towers burn from my building. Coworkers frantically trying to contact loved ones and first responders who worked in the city or nearby the Towers...prayer sessions in the hallways. Afterwards, the countless funerals in the area, some for the parents of school children living in our community who lost a parent(s). And now, local first responders dealing with serious long term health issues, some of which were already retired, but rushed to the towers to help their brethren.

How could we ever forget?

On the morning of September 11, 2001, 19 men armed with boxcutters directed by a man on dialysis in a cave fortress halfway around the world using a satellite phone and a laptop directed the most sophisticated penetration of the most heavily-defended airspace in the world, overpowering the passengers and the military combat-trained pilots on 4 commercial aircraft before flying those planes wildly off course for over an hour without being molested by a single fighter interceptor.

These 19 hijackers, devout religious fundamentalists who liked to drink alcohol, snort cocaine, and live with pink-haired strippers, managed to knock down 3 buildings with 2 planes in New York, while in Washington a pilot who couldn't handle a single engine Cessna was able to fly a 757 in an 8,000 foot descending 270 degree corskscrew turn to come exactly level with the ground, hitting the Pentagon in the budget analyst office where DoD staffers were working on the mystery of the 2.3 trillion dollars that Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld had announced "missing" from the Pentagon's coffers in a press conference the day before, on September 10, 2001.

Luckily, the news anchors knew who did it within minutes, the pundits knew within hours, the Administration knew within the day, and the evidence literally fell into the FBI's lap. But for some reason a bunch of crazy conspiracy theorists demanded an investigation into the greatest attack on American soil in history.
