Been on 1 cruise, and it was 40% of expectations, at best.
I'd rather just fly there and enjoy my own schedule

Cruises are fun y’all, you just have to accept them for what they are. It’s like going to the fair or a Jamil temple circus, just embrace it and it’s a lot of fun

box at the bottom for electrical, and because it was separate, it made quite the ruckus when you'd kick it. So, for instance, if you pretended to walk into the pole, kicked it really hard, then fell down rolling on the ground, it was a great way to get everybody to stop in hushed silence.
Or, if it happened to be in front of Liberty Steakhouse during CAN-AM week, to get the entire patio to start chanting "USA! USA!" as you got up and walked away.

it was pretty cool to be able to go to a lot of places you can't drive to. Beautiful scenery. The cruise-y parts of the cruise (buffets, dinners, social events) were fine but didn't love it.
Those European river cruises look pretty nice, especially for older folks.
But a 3 day Caribbean cruise? Hell nah.

excursions but those are limited. We took a bus ride to a private beach on one excursion and the beach had free drinks. We caught the last bus back and everyone was hammered. There was a woman we didn't know drunkenly emasculating her husband's small pen>is which was comedy GOLD for everyone except him. I wonder how she felt the next day. The bus had to stop on the side of the road to let people pee in the woods. The day at sea on the boat gets kinda boring. Lots of food to choose from and I feel like some of it was decent, but that was 20ish years ago and my memory is a little hazy.
I'd go back under the right conditions, but I would rather just go somewhere and stay there.

slipped getting into the hot tub, and cracked his jaw on the side. He was given some aspirin on board, and told he just needed rest.
He decided on his own to disembark in Cancun the next day to be seen by a doctor, and found the nearest hospital. Turns out the ship's doctor was all kinds of wrong---he had multiple fractures, leading to emergency surgery in less-than-optimal hospital in Mexico with his jaw wired shut, followed by a 2-week stay, since the pressure of a return flight would have likely done even more damage. Because the oral surgery wasn't up to par, most of that work had to be redone here in the US in subsequent months: titanium screws, a couple of posts and new teeth---the works.
A lot of that is just the risk of traveling abroad. But the care (or lack thereof) by the medical staff onboard pretty much ruled out a cruise for me, ever. He said it was all CYA from the start from the crew---it was never about getting him the help he actually needed, in an actual emergency.

We did a Greek Isle cruise that was great.
Apr 3, 2024, 11:16 AM

The boat wasnt great... the food was good. But what made it great was we were island hopping in the Greek Isles. We would get on the boat, eat dinner, night time entertainment, go to bed... then wake up early to go explore the new island we were on.
If the boat was the destination... I dont think it would be all that enjoyable.

Cruises are not for everyone but they will definitely leave your ### if you aren't back on board when it's time to leave. Can't really expect 5000 people to wait on a few who can't follow the very simple rule to be back on board on time or you'll get left.

pampering and vacationing I have ever experienced. It is amazing.
We decided to try leaving out of Tampa for the first time, this time - due to the Sunshine Skyway, the boats are small - and older - but we are taking the Littles, so . . . Carnival - hopefully we are out of Spring Breakers being on there - but who cares - we will be on the water, great food, and any drink you could ever want - any time - with the drink package they sell - which we enthusiastically purchased.
And we will be on the water . . . . lol.
This time - Carnival - small ship - just found out it is booked to capacity - we shall sea, I reckon' . . . .
