NCAA committee recommends that Marijuana should be removed from banned drug list

4

Jun 17, 2023, 6:16 PM

They’ve lost their minds already with everything going on. Let’s just let the kids smoke as much as they want too now. I’m sure there won’t be any negative consequences coming from it.

Good Lord.

It’s not a performance enhancer. It avoids opioid addiction. Go check yourself.

I don’t think you’ve ever smoked weed before.

Not even talking about on the field effects. I’m talking about these kids getting high during parties and driving around.

Check yourself.

I take a weed gummy every night for sleep. You clearly don’t know the weed culture. Most these guys would be hanging in their dorm or apartment taking them and eating vs out parting. I’d much rather our guys be at home smoking weed or taking edibles vs out drinking. How do you expect these guys to eat 5k calories a day, they need that at a minimum during the season with lifting and practice. You’re a fool.

You’re acting like there’s some problem with the nutrition of college athletes. Is there any malnutrition within the team? No😂 Get out of here with this lame horsesh** of an excuse.

You aren’t a football player. Your little weed gummy helps you sleep bud, but these guys would smoke multiple grams every day. They’d start missing practice more, definitely missing class more. It makes you lazy. Regardless of the stress relief. I’m not afraid to admit I’ve done my fair share, believe me I know how it affects you as a 20 year old.

We will see. Because it’s definitely getting unbanned.

Got few friends with chronic pain issues, one from a broken back and subsequent disk issues, the other a retired schoolteacher with lupus.
Both use edibles for pain after experience with addiction/withdrawal from opioid painkillers. It’s a real option for some people.

Is marijuana still considered an illegal drug by the federal government? What am I missing? If the substance is considered illegal, why would it be ok for it to show up on a drug screen? I personally don’t care what others do but, something is either legal or not.

It’s still fully illegal at the federal level as a SCH 5. Obama admin stopped most of the prosecutions and the two after him continued that policy.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The times, they are a changing.

4

Jun 17, 2023, 6:37 PM

It's 2023. We're probably a few years away from legalization everywhere anyway. I do not recommend that anybody stay stoned all of the time, but just like with alcohol, I don't think 18-22 yr olds should be punished for hitting a bong or drinking a few beers at a party. DUIs, legal and behavioral problems are a separate issue, and common sense and balance has to play into it. Having said that, each school and coach should have the right to set their own policy.

Makes no sense than alcohol and tobacco are legal but weed is not. There wasn't much logic behind the decision to make it illegal in the first place, though.. just racism.

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes it should be legal but Racism is the basis for it's initial illegality?¿¿¿...

Jun 18, 2023, 7:30 AM [ in reply to Re: NCAA committee recommends that Marijuana should be removed from banned drug list ]

actually, there was a ton of logic behind making it a schedule one. The counterculture movement of the 60's scared the living daylights out of the older generations so Nixon made it a felony to possess, essentially criminalizing the behaviors of his political opposition,.. And to this day, in many states, the penalty for marijuana distribution is worse than that for cocaine.

4

Jun 17, 2023, 8:05 PM

for more than one reason.

It's a legal substance in several states and growing.

A collegiate athlete that drinks is far worse off from a statistical perspective.

College athletes already smoke, dab or take edibles on a consistent basis. It's also rare they are caught.

I don't get the sense that you have experience to argue you're OP either, lest emotion.

3

Jun 17, 2023, 8:16 PM

Rather mj be legal than booze.
SC would actually do pretty well by its farmers if they were allowed to grow it too.
Fed legalization is coming, it’s time to accept it.

As for the NCAA, I hope they make that move.
Individual coaches can implement whatever they want to for their programs, but I bet they don’t. Guess we’ll see.

Our Lat/Long, Climate, Land Base, and Know How, puts us in a very profitable position if it were to be legalized in our state. I agree that alcohol, vapes, and opiates are far more dangerous than cannabis. Let's put the NIL to the test. More you smoke, drink, etc.... the less you can earn.

I say let them remove it. It hurts on field performance & academic performance.
