Would this year's team beat last year's team?

I say yes.
And.. here's the real question... if you had to pick (after 5 games this and last year)... DW or KB? Me, KB. I just think he's better.

Maybe, D is playing much more disciplined early on.

Wilkins, Lawrence, Renfrow, and other members of both teams........they'd be exhausted having to stay on the field the entire game.

I'm sorry but it's just silly for anyone to say they would take KB over DW. Watson is an NFL starting qb. Kelly is a great runner but has a long way to go as a passer. The reason he hasn't thrown many ints is because he's not asked to do much in the passing game. That tells us the coaches don't totally trust him yet. Do you really think KB could have led us back against bama last year with the passing game? When we play a team that shuts down the run we will be in trouble. Bama will do that.

VT shut down the run but you cant shut it down with a QB running because it is a hat on a hat. KB has also thrown the ball very well this year. He does not force things like DW did. I am not saying he is better than DW but he can beat Bama. He throws a great deep ball and is smarter with the ball that DW was.

because I think our passing game was better last year - but it's real hard to tell who's better.

KB has exceeded expectations; but those expectations were low. His main assets have been poise, excellent running, keeping mistakes to a minimum.
If we just ranked past Clemson quarterbacks, DW4 would be number 1; KB may make the top 10 (not sure).
Having said that, let me say that if KB keeps on improving - especially his passing - he can take the Tigers to the playoffs and beyond because this year's defense is better than last year's defense (both at LB and defensive end). The defensive backs may not be as talented but they don't give up as many big plays; perhaps their understanding of the defensive schemes are better than last year's group.

No. All things being equal, I take a DW4 team versus anyone

else. KB may develop that "it", but does not have it yet. Wouldn't it be interesting to see last year's offense against this year's defense? THAT would be fun to watch.

'Cause Bama looks awfully offensive this year.
And they've always been VERY offensive.

In lieu of DW4's last two weeks I'm going to politely ignore the KB / DW comparison. Also, this team has no Mike Williams level player.
However, this defense is better than last year, and I think the rb position is stronger in balance. This years team also seems to have a strong bond and tremendous leadership (no complacency) which I love
Would be a great game, but the qb position would be the difference in the matchup

Interesting question. Last years offense was better, but this years defense was better.
I think the real question is, how good would we be this year if the guys who had eligibility left didn't leave early. Can you imagine how unstoppable we would be with Watson, Gallman, Scott, and Pagano?

^^^ This!
While I do think the D is better or at least more athletic in key places, and the game would be tight. But DW gets the ball back in a tied game with 2 minutes left, he somehow engineers a TD drive to win it.
That's my perspective on it at least. But it was a fun question to think about.

Probably not. Both teams got in third and long situations

a good bit because of an inconsistent offense. Last year's team had Watson for 3rd and long. As the NFL is finding out, that's a huge difference-maker.

My summary
Oct 2, 2017, 8:11 PM
|
|
This year D is better—the line, the linebackers, the coverage.
On offense, DW4 is once-in-a-lifetime type of player. On third downs, I had confidence in the team to get first down with Mike Williams, Hunter Renfrow and Jordan Leggett. Cain was a nice addition. This year? I don’t have as much confidence. Renfrow is more covered because there are no other go-to guys. Cain has yet stepped up his game. Luckily, McCloud has played much better.
Good news is this year offense has a lot more potential. I kinda expect blowout in more than one of the remaining games—blowout as something like 63 or 70 to 3 or so.
Anyway, as of now, I mean this team now vs the national title team, I’d take the national title team. But as I said, as the season progressed, this year team has potential to be better overall.

Kelly Bryant keeps looking more and more in control and comforatable. Some of his runs plays in last weeks game were the best yet and his passes were pretty spot on besides a few high ones. Him and DW4 are just different type of players with their own swagger.

They are totally different and both amazing talents. This time last year people were asking what was wrong with DW because his innaccuracy on deep balls but yet people want to say KB cannot throw. KB has done what the coaches have asked and more. I think our O stats are less than last year just because the way the games have been called and because of turnovers. Last year we had to overcome turnovers in some games so we had to gain more yards to win. This year we get a lead without turning the ball over and let our D hold them and run clock. Last year most games came down to the last minute. Atleast the big games.

I think a lot of people forget KB is only in his 5th game. You could tell against VT the light is coming on. He was going through progressions better and had better pocket presence this week.
It’s just a matter of time before it all clicks and the offense takes off. One thing this offense is doing better is not turning the ball over. Last years o got us in a lot of bad situations doing that

That's a very unfair question. This years team is not last years team and visa-versa. Each team has it's own identity. Enjoy this years accomplishments, wins over 3 top 15 teams and a 5 and 0 record!!

Mini Bears 24. Giants 21. Mini Bears pull it out with a last minute field goal.
