My tribute to Joe21

Nov 3, 2021, 10:46 PM

I met Joe21 one time.
I had sent him this note:

Hi Joe,
I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy reading your stories. My Dad is a WWII veteran and he is still living in the upstate in Central, SC. I take him to lunch 3 times per week. We sit and talk. Sometimes he gets sad about missing my Mom and being lonely. Lately, after reading your stories it peeks my curiosity about his time in the service and I will ask him about it. He perks right up! Some of his stories are so funny like yours and we part ways after lunch on such a high note. Are you in the upstate? Maybe you could join us some time? Dad was a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division. He arrived late to WWII, coming from the Philippines, landing on Okinawa 3 days before the Treaty was signed with Japan.

He responded and met my dad and we talked. Such a great guy and a big deal to my dad to meet a fellow WW2 vet that was still around.

I continued to show my dad some of Joe’s stories (because it would put him in a good mood) up until Dad passed away. We had a chuckle over some of them and Dad would tell of some of his own capers in the military.

If you never met Joe, here is a nice article about him.

Rest In Peace Joe21. You will be missed.

Thank You so much for posting this video. I had plans to

meet Mr. Joe for the first time at his 100th birthday get together in Clemson. Sadly, that will never happen. But, this video is the next best thing. He had an amazingly sharp mind and vocalization for one his age. Or any age!

He will truly be sadly missed here on the TNets. We have lost a cornerstone.

I was both stunned and saddened to read this news

Nov 4, 2021, 5:26 AM

early this morning.

Sometimes, people pass through our lives who make a positive impact, and for many of us Joe's wriiten words became our bond. I know some met or knew him, and I envy you for it.

TigerNet was richer and brighter because of him, as were those of us who enjoyed his words.

May he rest in peace, and may the Almighty provide strength, comfort and His peace that passes all understanding to his family and friends.

Thank you, Joe.

It was truly an honor reading his stories. Sad news to hear. But comforting to think about how great and extraordinary his time here on earth was. Never met the man in person, but my heart sank this morning upon reading the news of his passing. Prayers to his family. Prayers for this nation. We lost a great man and patriot.
