My thoughts on FSU finally winning a game.

I know this is a Clemson board. But, several of y'all were posting about the Nole game yesterday. And, since the two teams play each other in a couple of weeks, I figured I'd give my take on it. Feel free to ignore this post if you so choose.
Any win is a good win. When you are 0-3 any win is a real good win. But, never get too high over a win or too low after a loss.
Nothing to get too high over with this win. If I could describe the emotion of most fans after the game it would be relief, not joy.
Defense played well. Not great, but well. Remember, Cal is not a good team.
Offense still struggling mightily. A few bright spots, but not nearly enough. After NCAA loads the stats in for this weekend's games FSU will be last in the P4 in scoring offense averaging 15 points per game.
FSU has scored 60 points in the last 12 quarters. Clemson scored 59 in 3 quarters.
Here is all you need to know to understand just how far FSU has to go to become even a decent team. Navy scored 56 against Memphis and rushed for 361 yards. FSU has rushed for 288 in 4 games, including 37 against Memphis.
As for DJU - He is one of the many reasons the offense is struggling, but he is not the MAJOR reason. Those 5 guys in front of him are a far bigger problem than he is.

The Cal FG kicker missed one of his two misses on 4th Qtr kicks wide left.
Very far left. Cal, very far left.
If you get what I mean.

Much credit goes to the Nole D. But, just as much credit goes to the Cal O.

.... than I do. (His dad is a HS coaching legend in FL, having won a couple of state championships and over 300 games. His brother played QB at FSU in the 80s under Bowden.) After the game, we were texting each other. We agreed on this. "Clemson is gonna kill us." We set the over under on sacks at 10.5 and both of us took the over.

We have no idea how the new, improved Cade is going to play on the road. That’s the biggest wild card to me about that game. If he goes back to being hesitant and they dumb down the playbook it could be a very close game.

This is a very good post by Seminole fan who understands his team in football overall. I think one of the points major is Clemson should win the game and win big.

I think you are dissing your own team by saying Cal is not a good team. Were undefeated including win at Auburn. Auburn is down but know you take a win at that tough place to play?
Yeah, Cal has a good defense and great running back. Take a good win in strides over at least above average team and be happy and more importantly keep improving...

Through yesterday Cal ranks 13th in team offense in the ACC--thy are putrid. They rank 4th overall in defense in the ACC. BUT--if you look at "who" they played, that has a LOT more to do with it than anything. Auburn and FSU are really struggling on offense. So that stat is a little misleading. I don't think wins against "Cal Davis" and "Sandy Eggo State" indicate anything.

I saw glimmers of hope on the defense, but then again, Cal is so bad, I agree that we're not sure how much of that was Cal and how much of that was FSU.
Anyway, DJU can watch our "very basic" offense hang 50 on him on Oct. 5th. Not sure anyone in tigertown was pleased with those comments of his.

to be going through the motions, collecting his paychecks, so to speak, with very little emotion and/or encouragement for his teammates.
This (to me) creates a fundamental problem with the entire team, as the QB is usually expected to be the primary enervator. Coach Norvell IMO made the same mistake, as we did, with his recruitment, for I have believed for some time that DJ would have fared much better at lower level play. He is talented, just not at a P5 level. Thus, I don't know FSU's backups, but Coach Norvell would be better off with substituting now than later.
I agree: a win is a win, and it was important for FSU to beat Cal yesterday. Congratulations.

We had people defending DJ when he was here with the same argument.

I'm not picking on you, brother but you saw how fluid Cade moves, how quickly he releases the ball and how James Bond he is in pressure.
That corner Cade turned between week one and 3 is something we expected DJ to do so I ask you to consider, if Cade were behind center on your team do you think you'd be undefeated right now? You don't have to answer that.
People have been stacking the box on DJ since his second regular season game during his first year as a starter at Clemson. They know he can't hit a crossing route and they know his first step is slower than molasses in Jan.
Our offensive line took a lot of heat for DJ's failures here.

DJ’s play is the same as was with us. Uninspired. Sub par. Not exemplary of a top tier qb. That affects the entire team, offense and defense. If the defense has no confidence in the qb there is a malaise over the entire team.
