My take on the end of yesterday's basketball game.

Mar 9, 2014, 7:03 PM

We had an extremely controversial call by an ACC ref go against us to send the game to overtime.
In other news, water is wet and the sky is blue.
Anyone who has been a long time fan of Clemson basketball
should not have expected anything else.

Fire Brownell!

Just kidding. He did a great job this yr. Sucks he's probably gonna lose kj just when he finally gets some decent recruits in

just like the players at the end...i could feel the knife creeping behind our backs when regulation was closing.

it's expected...and that sickens me WORSE!

Agreed! No way they were going to declare that the buzzer was sounded, even though it certainly appeared in the freeze frame shots that the ball still was in the fingers of their guy when the backboard lit up. Still, it shouldn't have come down to that last shot. Blown inbounds play, and super poor free throw shooting has cost us so many games for so long. When will we ever get a team that can hit the foul shots? It has cost us many, many, many games.

agree BUT if we make an inbounds play we win

Brownell made bad mistake unfortunately - do not throw in

Mar 9, 2014, 7:55 PM

under the opps. basket esp. with 2 secs. left - as K.J. said, "shoulda been a long pass to other end." As much as I like Brownell I am puzzling at that decision and his inability so far as I know to own up to it!

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

KJ, you, and I are right.........throw it deep!

Mar 9, 2014, 8:01 PM

BB has done a good job, but that was a no brainer.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

KJ, you, and I are right.........throw it deep! No-Brainer!

Agree!

Mar 9, 2014, 8:20 PM [ in reply to KJ, you, and I are right.........throw it deep! ]

honestly, we do not know that Brad did not tell him to do that, but he couldn't get the ball off because of the defense right in his face, with his long arms extended above his head. He also was not allowed the 3 ft cushion that the man taking ball oob is suppose to have.

I do not know if Brad told him anything or not,,,but it is a possibility.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Brad said he was afraid to throw it deep, as they might

Mar 9, 2014, 9:04 PM

intercept and hit 3 pointer and thought 2.3 seconds was too long. WRONG! I wish he would admit he screwed up big-time!

Go back and listen to his post game comments, he did slightly own up to it. But just like anyone else that makes a terrible mistake, he hated owning up and just made a very brief gesture that he should have made it a full court play. But really, the ball rolled around on the floor and the player picked it up, double pumped and shot. And like the clock said on that end of the court, he didn't get it off in time. A auspicious JUDGEMENT call gave it to the shooter. His 2.4 seconds had indeed expired!!! That game was without any doubt stolen at that point b/c of the shock of the judgement call took all the wind completely out out guys sails!!!

We got the shaft on a bad call...

Mar 9, 2014, 8:06 PM

And it's not right. It's not fair. But it's no surprise.
Bottom line - we need more ball handlers and more shooters if we expect to beat quality teams with any consistency. Hopefully the guys coming in next season will help us in those areas. And hopefully McDaniels will see that he can dramatically increase his value in the NBA draft by staying and proving more next season. He's been inconsistent at times. He has room to improve his game, especially his jumpshot. He'll have to pull up and shoot it sometimes in the NBA. I hope he realizes that fact.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Should not have gotte to that

Mar 9, 2014, 8:31 PM

If we make one more free throw (I think we were three for six in the last 40 secs).

If we throw the ball DOWN the court... even it we don't recover it

Hell, even if we take a five second call (at least would have had chance to set defense)

If we do ANYTHING, except what we did.... Clemson wins the game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oops... should be "gotten"***

Got(ten) it right Mac! Brownell's worst coaching I have seen***

Before the throw in, radio dude was suggesting a deep throw.

Mar 9, 2014, 9:27 PM

I thought it a good idea, too. It would only need to be touched in bounds first.

Pathetic finish to a game.

Hit the guy defending the inbounds pass square between the ####### with a fast ball. By the time everyone quits laughing, the whole team will have showered and been at the Esso...
