I replied in that thread and I definitely think CJ was a top 5. Just think what we would have done without him? With a good OL he would have shined more.

One of my comnents was A Ellington was one of the best as well but I feel like he is the most underrated of all RBs. He is better than many give credit. He had enough power but could also house. He didn't have a great cast around him either as we were getting down to our Clemsoning days then.

I think the same goes for Wayne Galman. Remember how out of sorts we were in the NC Stte game after they head hunted him and knocked him out the game.

Somebody is crazy. CJ was top 3, and I'm leaning to #1 after watching these clips. ETN is in there, and I've always been partial to Terry Allen - an NFL star even after multiple ACL tears.

Thanks for sharing, and I saw you in GT clip you crazy Tiger diamond.

I'd say a number 4 nfl pick, winning mvp in an acc championship that we lost, and a sports illustrated article 2 years ago that ranks him 2, only behind etn says otherwise.

All that said, gallman will always hold a special place in my heart for the run he made in our legendary drive.

Gallman is the second most underrated RB at Clemson. He was our best blocker from backfield of all RBs. Mafah really needs to work on his blocking, he has let Cade get killed a few times.

Him even MAKING the NFL was a huge longshot. It just goes to show that to some extent, hard work and being fundamentally sound in all aspects of the game are still valued, at least in the right situation.

Gallma did not have the raw talent that CJ and ETN had, but he made up for that by running angry all the time. Not sure that we a back that ran as hard as Wayne on every play. Basically ran like he was a linebacker which he played in high school as well.

than with any other back we have ever had. If the defensive player had a shallow angle, CJ would just run by him. And if he had a big angle, CJ would abuse him with a juke. He sent more defensive players to the ER at Prisma than anybody in Clemson history;" what we got Doc, another broken ankle?....Yup...".

Was that after u fired the cannon?

And Spiller on any team we have ever had would have been the starter. You can not afford to leave him on the bench.

Ge didn't just not have a line in front if him but no tajh, no Watson, no Trevor, etc...
He didn't have a bevy of recievers to pull the defense. Nobody was looking for Hopkins, Watkins, cain, Higgins, Renfrow, Williams, etc etc...

He was the people champ. The most dynamic player on any college field he stepped on. He did things though impossible.

So yeah imho he #1.
PS i take nothing away from all the other greats everyone argues for. Id put them all at 1 if someone other than a tiger fan asked.

Both CJ and ETN were great Tigers, and our best two RBs ever. Any time they touched the ball it was a potential TD.

Both were great running the ball, but CJ was a much better pass receiver and also a better KR.

Hopefully, another like them will come along.

IMO, if CJ wasn't the best all around RB that we've ever had, he was better than the #2 RB we've had, and no doubt that when he got past the D Line, he was by far the best!!!

CJ was the best open field runner in the modern history of college football. I think his history of TD runs of over 50 yards proves the point. But football is more than broken field running.

My own ranking of Clemson backs is based on watching 55 years of Tiger runners looks like this:

1.Travis Etienne

2.CJ Spiller

3.Terry Allen

4. James Davis

5. Buddy Gore

What About Quarterbacks?

1. Trevor Lawrence
2. Deshaun Watson

3.Homer Jordan

4. Steve Fuller

5. Woody Dantzler

6. Charlie Whitehurst

I feel really blessed to have seen these 11 men play Clemson football.

Go Tigers!!

And he was not only a threat at rb, but just as lethal at catching passes and returning kickoffs and punts too.
