My kneejerk reaction to Streeter being fired.

Reminds me of firing Kevin Steele. Not saying Riley will be as successful as Venables. Just saying for those folks who think Dabo has lost his desire to excel and Dabo will put friendship over performance, this should put that to rest.

As for hiring Riley, I love it. Yes, he is young, but he has been successful everywhere he has been. Don't let one game make you forget about his overall performance. He was successful for 2 years at SMU and then certainly over achieved this year at TCU. Entered the season predicted to finish 7th in the Big 12. 455 yards per game this year. Turned a good, but not great, QB into a Heisman finalist.

He's Lincoln Riley's younger brother. He's never coached with Lincoln. He's technically not part of the Mike Leach Air Raid coaching tree. But, he definitely has some similarities. His offenses tend to be "spread the ball all over the field, make them cover you horizontally AND vertically, run up tempo."

Every coaching hire is a gamble. There are no guarantees. But color me very optimistic about this one. Makes me less optimistic about FSU's chances of going to Death Valley and coming home with a win.

Congrats to Clemson.

You're just getting a taste of what Clemson endured when FSU and VT came into the league. We could do little to nothing with either team for nearly a decade.

My friend, I'm glad we can repay the consideration.

Don't get me wrong.

Even before this hire I would give the edge to Clemson next Fall when FSU comes to town. I think the talent and coaching levels are close enough it should be a competitive game, but I would give the edge to Clemson.

We will not ever know all about Streeters performance because he only got to work with a quality QB for a little time and much of the effort was spent trying to rehab DJ`s psyche! Streeter may show up well somewhere else and not have to read all the B.S. on this website...Riley had a QB that can make anyone look good...let's see what he does now...always be careful what you wish for cause you just may get it!

To me, the most interesting part about the Riley brothers is how Lincoln had a front row seat about how Mike Leach’s offense was able to use several generally average receivers to put up whopper numbers. (From back early in the New Millenium.)

The big question: How translatable is Lincoln’s knowledge (I.e., in getting big production out of non-super star WRs) over to Garrett?

Clemson’s WR unit has been the weakest link in our offense the last two years. This past season, ball-catching skills had improved, but our WRs struggled to get separation.

If G.Riley’s offensive schemes can create ways for WRs to get separation, then we have a chance for a very good offense next year.

Fingers crossed!

I have to think that even if Clemsons WR room is a little down from past years that a new hot hire at OC might perk up some interest from receivers who are still mulling offers. Either way its a good day to be a Tiger, as it is every day. Good luck to Coach Streeter, welcome Coach Riley.

The secret to running that offense, or any spread offense,..

... is the OL. The OL has to be able to protect the QB and give him time to get the ball to an athlete in open space.

The UGA DL just totally dominated and destroyed the TCU OL.

If Clemson OL is good, Clemson OL will be great. If Clemson OL is great....

It's been an issue for several years. Hopefully, the OL unit will be stronger and deeper this fall.

For my part, it seems OL has not been an issue for only a few years since Danny was here. Because of this I have to ask those who know more, how and why?

Is our problem SC, development or something to do with the individuals not comprehending the system and their role in it...? I have no idea but it's a curiosity born of frustration

Totally agree. A faster, more productive offense is a lot more appealing to OL recruits. Success fuels success!

Go Tigers!

Our weakest link has been our offensive line for many years.

Dabo knew that if he wants to continue to be an elite program, Streeter was not going to get it done. Pretty much all of us knew that. We were living off the remnants of the system that Chad Morris put in at Clemson, Scott and Elliot made variations on it, but Streeter’s offense was basically hand the ball off, read option or RPO. Just no imagination at all. DJ and our wide receivers seemed lost at times. Dabo does not like being embarrassed

I’ve mean what happened to the pistol, the orbit motion, the draw, double pump to a slant, etc. Streeter was just calling screen passes and boundary. ZZZZ
