My issue with coaching

Our team this year is good enough to play with any team in the country, our problem is we don't know how to play from behind/over come our mistakes. This goes back a couple our years and our coaching staff is to blame, it should have been corrected. At NC State in 2011 we got behind because of mistakes (turnovers) early. Instead of settling down and playing solid football to get back in the game we kept making mistakes and lost big. Remember the Orange Bowl debacle. Early it was a back and forth game. Ellingtons fumble one the one yard line returned for a score could have been a go ahead score for us, instead we let it become a mistake that we could not over come. We started making more mistakes and got blew out. Last year I thought we did better. Two losses we had chances to get back in the game when we threw picks instead. But not the total melt down of the past year. The LSU game I felt maybe we grew up a little bit. Gave up the early fumble but came back and played a solid game and got the W. Then came the FSU game this year, I had a front row seat for that mess. Still want money back but I did stay to the end. Fumble on the first play of the game followed by more mistakes. Blowout was of course the result. And then the game Saturday night. Pick on a stupid play call early followed by a fumbled punt put us in a hole. We settled down and played good football fora bit to tie the gamr

for Sammy to throw a jump ball downfield, when we had them on their heels, and their crowd silent 3 minutes into the game.

There was no need for a trick play at that point in the game.

Had it worked we all would have thought it was brilliant.

After we tie what happens, bad call by the refs on 4th and one cost us the momentum. Bad calls happen, good teams find a way to overcome them. What did we do, 4 turnovers in the fourth quarter and gave the game away. USCjr beat us by 2 scores with 6 turn overs, a team with a pulse would have killed us, that's what makes that loss so hard, we gave it away. Coaching should have us prepared. We play great when we have a lead, but mistakes kill us because we seem to just keep making them and that's on the coachd

I must have missed Dabo running downfield with the ball or Chad Morris..when did the fumble? I am as sick as any Clemson fan but it happen, just could not protect the ball...move on and wait to play one more game.

Note 2 : Coaches put Bryant on punt return team

for some reason.
Obviously it wasn't for returning the ball , as Humphries was the only one back.
I thought Bryant was a WR....
If he's a blocker...well....wow.

turnovers and not getting off the field on 3rd down

have killed us in big games.just to add to it time of possession usuc ran more plays than we did which is another reason the hurry up and score style is flawed and some teams have figured out how to stop it or at least slow it down.

Note 3: Not getting off the field.

We had 2 jobs....stop Davis. Grade: A
Stop the scrambling QB. Grade F
We tried to keep Anthony on him....not fast enough.
Wiggins ? Kearse ? Anyone ? Anyone faster we can sit in the middle and spy him ? ESPECIALLY when it's 3rd and 10-12
After 3 or 4 times ? 6 or 8 times ??? All night long ???? The ONLY positive play they kept running ??????

All well said in this post. Don't understand why a similar D that we ran against GT and Citadel couldn't been run against some of Carolina's option read type O. I mean we all knew that shaw was gonna scramble on 3rd down. We shut the running game down minus shaw. And they couldn't stop our running game which leads me to something I've asked many times on Tnet today...why did we even throw the ball at all. I mean Florida never did and they hung right in there with USuC. And yes, why the #### is Bryant on special teams?
Bottom line, Clemson plays too tight in big games. Boyd plays off emotion and anyone who has ever played football should be able to recognize that. You can't win games off pure emotion. You will always choke in the end.

I agree. We did not seem prepared or hungry (other than #25). To me, that is on the coaching staff??

Well, in fairness, the games you mentioned with NCSU and against WV, K. Steele was our DC. He was summarily fired following the WV game, and most would say we have improved from when Steele was at Clemson. No way our defense isn't better now than then. Do we still have problems to fix? Yes, both offensively and defensively (most all teams do). It has taken the mighty spurrier many years to build his program into a somewhat respectable group, and even he manages to lose some games he should not lose.

But neither Clemson not Carolina are capable with playing with anybody.
The last few years have been fun for both programs, but we just don't have the talent of a FSU or Alabama and Auburn to truly compete with them.
