looks, seems, feels pretty intuitive...
did you get one of the kits w/ the spotlights and pathlights?
I had some FBCooch solar ones that finally gave out. looked ratchet AF in hindsight haha...these seem a little more legit than what you can get at the big box stores.
tbf though, did not consider costco. which is unlike me

Don’t do anything crazy, just some standard up lights on the house and any nice trees, and walkway lights for path to the porch looks classy. If you want to get fancier, you can put them on a dimmer, and would suggest a smart socket for them to control w phone, mine is called Brilliance I think.

honestly there's a guy in my neighborhood w/ a kind of similar house to mine. I think I'm going to just copy his...got the spotlights filling columns and walls btwn wynnders, then a couple path lights for the front walkway
the colored lights would be cool for like one day then I'd never use em. so not worth it.
they're like 4x the price too

and I think w/ today's tech you can just rig up an outdoor smart switch to your google/alexa/ring
the solar options just aren't as reliable.
reviews and videos look fairly easy to install. given the work I gotta do on my flower beds, figured now would be the ideal time so I can easily backfill w/ new mulch after burying the cable.

I want to get someone out to update this 1972 electrical to code. I've got some 3 prong outlets but none have grounds. I'll also have them put a bunch of outlets in around the exterior and hopefully upgrade the power in my shed as well so I can Bobby Builds It at ungodly late hours.

I might do something like this. The fact that I don't have neighbors and you can't see my house from the road coupled with the fact that pitch black foreboding night does a great job of keeping away anybody other than crazed crackhead chicks with steak knives in their pants or lost kayaking college girls...I see no need to spend that money. But, I might very well do it if I lived like the rest of you sheeple. Might be nice to change purple and orange on game days to red and green at Christmas at the flick of a phone app button.

and purty my house would be, so waste of effort for me. I only light paths around my stead, so I can see where I'm walking if I have to do a late night trip down to the chicken house or barn.
I know solar stuff is crap, I've never had one last more than a year or so.

Got them at Home Depot, and they are in the weather 24/7/365 and so far have lasted somewhere in the neighborhood of 6 or 7 years. They weren't expensive and I've been impressed with how well they work. They're sensitive enough that the cats can set them off, so just about any animal except a snake I would worry about will too. I did almost step on a copperhead getting out of the car one night after coming home from band practice which prompted me to get the light on the carport. We have a city of RH security light in the driveway, so I never really saw the need for any kind of pathway lighting. It's definitely enough light to acquire a target with a rifle from the front upstairs window.

Butt for real, I like the idea of doing that, but just cannot justify the cost right now. I did hang those big bulb string lights on the back patio, hooked a smart switch up to it, and boom...phone can turn it off and on. Even added a redneck lit up Palm Tree to the back patio. That is as nice as I need for now.

Kichler is a great brand, but he uses mostly SOLOS lighting.
Of course go low voltage LED. Each fixture uses less than 5 watts.
Get a good transformer and install next to outdoor outlet, or if none, run cord through garage wall. The transformer must be outside for the dusk to dawn sensors.
Wires go from transformer to fixture to fixture to fixture. Do not have to run in series.
Use pretty thick wiring, i think we use 12 gauge.
Wire is laid initially ABOVE ground. We usually cover with mulch or pine straw. You don't bury it because it will be cut later when you plant anything.
Generally 3 types of lights. Bullet (the ones that shoot up on your house), Path (the ones that line a walkway) and Wash (Lights up a bigger area, like a wall)
As a guide, Bullets shoot up the corners of your house. Most houses have 6 or 7 different corners and angles. You never want a bullet shining into a window however
Paths can go on one side or alternate sides as you walk
Wash lights shine on a wider tree (like a japanese maple, etc) or accent wall.
You can generally plan on each fixture being about $100, including bulb. We usually charge $50 each item installed. But this is an EASY do it yourself project.
And keep in mind, 20 fixtures installed is the equivalent of a 100 watt bulb, so they are very cheap to run. Also, don't be that neighbor with the blueish hint light, get the warm (yellowish) bulbs.
The multi color, color changing ones are VERY expensive, and connect through bluetooth to an app on your phone or computer. They look nice, but we have had issues with them.
If you lived close to Atlanta i'd install them for you.
