Chic-Fil-A Ticket Office Calls Out NC State lol

Jul 25, 2012, 3:23 PM

GREENSBORO, N.C. — It is about a seven-hour drive from Raleigh to Atlanta. It is about a three-and-a-half hour drive from Knoxville, Tenn., to Atlanta. So does double the distance mean half the fans?

Apparently, the answer is yes.

Gary Stokan, president of the Chick-fil-A Bowl and a North Carolina State graduate, challenged Wolfpack fans Monday while joining Adam and Joe on 99.9 The Fan ESPN Radio, even going as far as calling them out directly.

The source of his frustration is the lackluster ticket sales for the season-opener, against a prime opponent, after he reached out to them specifically.

“I’ll be brutally honest, as an NC State guy I’m frankly disappointed in NC State’s support right now,” Stokan said while at the ACC Kickoff in Greensboro. “It shocks me, frankly, because every time NC State played at the old Peach Bowl, they would bring 25,000 people.

“Here we have Tom O’Brien that has done a magnificent job…they have a quarterback that is on all the lists, they have an All-American defensive back in (David) Amerson. I don’t understand why the NC State fans aren’t excited as heck to come to Atlanta, play against an SEC team, that they have a great shot at beating,” Stokan continued.

According to Stokan, Tennesse, NC State’s opponent for the season opener in Atlanta, has sold 26,000 of their 31,500 allotted seats. NC State has sold just 15,000.

In the second of the kickoff games at the Georgia Dome, Auburn has already sold out their 31,500 tickets, while Clemson has sold 26,000 tickets.

Stokan said that he approached NC State to play in the game specifically because he could not get the Wolfpack in the bowl game last season, believes that they would be a contender against Tennessee of the SEC and because he felt they would be able to sell out their allotment.

“I just don’t understand why the support isn’t there to get them to 25,000 ticket sales right now," Stokan said. "I’m calling out the Wolfpackers right now. If we’re talking about ‘Wolfpack Unlimited,’ let’s show our unlimited support to Tom O’Brien and NC State in the first game, because if NC State wins that first game, they could be in for a special season.”

The Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic between NC State and Tennessee is scheduled for Friday night, Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m.

This is the exact reason that the ACC as a whole will….

Jul 25, 2012, 3:28 PM

never be a good football conference. 11 of the 14 ACC schools fan base's don't care about football.

Are Auburn fans better fans than we are? I thought Clemson spirit would be out in front here and we would be the ones ahead in sales. Come on Tigers--Big Game--come out to support our boys!

I agree, but I think there's a decent size group of fans

Jul 25, 2012, 3:38 PM

that are scared of that venue and are recent history in that building. I think a lot of Clemson fans are superstitious when it comes to things like this and think that if they stay away, we have a better chance of winning.

I know it doesn't make any sense, but I'm the same way. I start the season wearing a certain Clemson shirt and hat on game days. As soon as we lose, I switch up the combo until we lose again.

Taking down walls are part of it. Clemson walking into Lane

Stadium and showing who was boss is a way back. Walking into Atlanta with our fans behind us and spanking Auburn is a part of taking down walls.

10k more students and Atl is bascially Auburn east

There are a ton of Auburn fans in Cobb county specifically and north georgia in general.

How about our alumni? Isn't Atlanta one of the leaders?***

I don't like sitting in the upper deck anywhere.

therefore I'm going to be buying my tickets from a different vender than Clemson. And therefore I'm afraid that I don't count in the previously mentioned totals. I think that there may be others like myself.

You realize that Stokan is an NSCU alum right?

Jul 25, 2012, 3:38 PM

he's more calling out his own folks to get them to come to his event than a representative of Chick-Fil-A or the CFA Game.

First of all....

Jul 25, 2012, 3:43 PM

with a record of 33 - 30 while at NC State, I certainly would not go so far as to say Tom O’Brien has done a "magnificent job", although the last two years have seen improvement.

Second, as an NC State alum, the lackluster ticket sales should not surprise Stokan. He knows that unless UNC or Clemson are in town, State rarely manages to sell out its own home games and Carter Finley Stadium only seats a little over 57,000.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

It will cost me $100 in gas, $40 in food, $50 per ticket to get to Atlanta and back for the day. I think I'll just stay home and support my favorite bar and save $150 bucks. Sorry, but I don't have a job that pays me $150,000 per year.

Yours Truely

well in their defense- 7 hours for a Friday game

Jul 25, 2012, 4:38 PM

IS a lot different than 3.. plus many portions of Tenn much closer than 3. That said-- there is a reason Tennesse has 100K stadium and NCSU has 55. You play the game in CLT and they both are at 26-30 though.

I actually think 15k is pretty good. The 3 schools have done a really good job going over 25K.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sounds like we are dealing with Wolfpack Limited

Jul 25, 2012, 4:44 PM

Limited budget, limited travel, limited interest in their team. Can I get a free ticket in the NCSt side for buying a Clemson ticket? I'll take an empty seat if their fans don't want it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not knocking the NCSU fans, but it's a shame. They have a

null

Its somewhat proportional to home crowds: UT has 100k +, NCSU has 60?

Jul 25, 2012, 9:13 PM

For a good home opponent.
