My Bubble Screen Story

My wife and I had seats right behind the VaTech bench. Behind us we 3 very large squishy Tiger “fans” of the type that think criticising our team is a right you get when you buy a ticket. So… unsurprisingly, we’ve run 3 or maybe 10 bubble screens for no gain and they’re coming unhinged. The coaches are idiots, the players are incompetent… Then, right in front of us, yet another bubble screen. They moaning while the ball is in the air. But this goes for a 40 yard touchdown. This is where I snap.

I turned around, my face is bright red, I’m point a finger at them and shouting “THAT… was a bubble screen! The coach that called it gets paid 10 times what you do because he knows what he’s doing. The players on the field put work and discipline that you have never attempted so that they can run that bubble screen. They did their job and we just scored. YOU are a fan. You have one job, to cheer for your team and you’re doing a lousy job.” My wife is pulling me out of their faces and everyone else is cheering me on. They kept their mouths shut for the rest of the game.

Since then, my wife only wants to go when we play SC State or Wofford.

I didn’t love the bubble screen and I didn’t think Spense was a genius, evil or otherwise, but I did and do support my team even when I wish they would read TigerNet more often so that they could benefit from smartness.

It's amazing the emotions FB can bring out of people. I remember Hatfield running the fullback dive what seemed like every other play. It would drive me crazy.

Having success on 1 out of 10 plays does not bode well…

For winning games. I would have aske you “who in the hell made you the authority on how people can fan?” Then I would have said turn around and #### while I proceeded to voice my opinion on the ####### play calling. You sound like those folks who had no issue with abandoning the run in the Scar game this year. 🙄
