Much to Prove. I watched ESPN tonight. First it was CFB Live

Aug 23, 2012, 8:41 PM

and then the Herbie Awards. The "kingmakers" of the CFB world were in full force in talking about the ACC.

You would have thought based on their stories and segments that it was FSU and all the rest of us in the ACC were the sisters of the poor. Of course they touted that FSU had two number 2 ranked recruiting classes. But the gap between them and us in those recruiting classes was not mentioned or how small it was. It pissed me off because if you look at how many times we have beat them since 2003 we should be getting some respect just for that.

And over and over was the sentiment that the ACC was meant only to showcase FSU and Miami and if only they were the teams at the top all the time. As if we were not a founding member who was ALWAYS football first. As if Clemson's 30 some year dominance of the conference with 10+ championships, a national title, and numerous big-time bowl apperances has no currency.

Well, I am tired of it. It is time for us to prove we are more than a sister of the poor to FSU. Duke may be. Maryland and BC too. We are not. We have been around longer as a cfb power starting with John Heisman in the 1900's. We have the history, tradition, and fan support to be right at the top every year. If LSU, that was in the dumps for 30+ years, can go to the top again several years back then so can we. We hit a rough spot when Ford was let go and FSU was let into the league. This was really bad timing for us. Danny Ford would have owned or evened the series with FSU in the 90's if he had stayed around. It is a major part of what gave FSU any currency at all.

I do like staying under the radar some of the time but I do not like being thought of as a sister of the poor. Dabo needs to sit our guys down and let them watch the ESPN show on the Herbies as a team. The team needs to know what is at stake this year and how much we have to prove to put ourselves into the national conversation on big-time, elite cfb again. I know if I was a player I would want to prove the "kingmakers" at ESPN and all the rest of the world who doubt us that THEY ARE WRONG.

Looking for our young men to do so! I think they have the heart of a Tiger that we are looking for this year.

GO TIGERS!!!!!!

Solid post. I believe that's what we've been hearing from

Aug 23, 2012, 8:46 PM

There isn't much question that FSU hauls in loads of talent

Aug 23, 2012, 9:51 PM

during recruiting season.

But ever since about the time that Mark Richt and the Stoops brothers left, they've had trouble converting raw talent into on-field skill.

The bottom line is they have had great talent but only mediocre talent for the past decade or better. I don't see Jimbo Fisher and his current staff changing that trend one bit.

Let the talking heads give them props on TV in late August. Me, on the otherhand, I'm perfectly content to steamroll them in late September.

The above should read: "they have had great talent but only mediocre COACHING for the past decade or so"

Please pardon the mistake.

I've found espn has lost touch with most of the cfb world

Aug 23, 2012, 9:55 PM

I've been avoiding it most of the summer since I don't need to hear sec used as an adjective 10 times in one minute.

The shows on XM and Tim Brando's show are much better. I used to dislike Brando, but he has won me over recently. He is partial to the sec, but he is professional about it. Plus, he takes digs at espn whenever he can.

I caught the Herbie's and ACC preview, and I don't really need to see anything else other than games on there at this point. Even gameday has gone downhill the past few years. I don't mind the disrespect Clemson gets. Real CFB people know it's a very strong program with a great fanbase. Actually, real CFB people don't watch espn anymore.

you have to understand that most,if not all sports commentators suffer from acquired cretinism.

We can't really blame anyone but ourselves. One ACC Championship in 20 years, hurt us. Truth hurts...FSU was the last team that was really relevant. Even VT with their however many 10+ win seasons in a row still aren't very relevant.

You're on target....Folks have to understand that broadcast

Aug 24, 2012, 7:59 AM

"journalists" are no different than other journalists: they latch onto an idea, then get fixated and run on and on until they themselves get tired of it. Then they choose another topic. If FSU loses a game, these numbnutted nincompoops will bail ship like rats...and another school will become their "darlings." It's an age-old story. And that's why I don't lend much credulance to all the malarkey.

They said the same things last year about FSU's defense that they're saying this year. They may shut the running game down again but they can't cover what we got.
