people.
I'm not here to beat up my mother today. We were raised rough. In the years since my mother's death I have learned many things about her childhood. I can honestly say she gave me and my siblings a better childhood than her own. I suppose that's all we can ask of anyone. I'm at peace with that.
I AM here today to lift up my aunts, my neighbors, those generous mothers of my friends, etc. who saw a need and tried to fill it. They saw injustice and tried to correct it. They saw a want and tried to provide it.
Today I want to honor one of those as an example: "Ms. Marjorie". She was the mother of a middle-school friend who always found a reason to sit me at the table with her family. She gave me a ride to and from school functions that I would have otherwise not attended. She got me on her church softball team and then gave me a ride to and from every game.
Ms. Marjorie passed years ago. She is enjoying her well-deserved reward. And I am blessed with the wonderful memories of the gift of time...that she just took a little time...to improve the life of a clumsy boy to whom she owed nothing.
