I think we can all "get over" a loss fairly quickly, in most cases. It is "how we lost" where this one will stick with me for a while. I got over UGA without much trouble because I knew, that night, we lost to a better team. That was not the case last night.
Losing to an inferior opponent because you came in under-prepared and uninspired, after having 2 weeks to get ready, is a bitter pill to swallow. And then, to see a coaching staff seemingly sleepwalk through the game, making almost no adjustments, and unable to process simple math or basic clock management is really mind boggling.
It points to something more than Xs and Os. There is something systemic going on that seems to have permeated within the culture. I'm not smart enough to know exactly what it is but I am smart enough to see the lack of intensity and commitment to excellence that we once had.
We will find out against Va Tech and Pitt whether this was just a crazy off night or if there is more than meets the eye here. I'm hoping for a nice rebound but I am concerned there is more going on than a couple of good rebound games can fix.

Honestly, if we can win the next two on the road then we will be alright.

This group needs to remember it was "one game" and not let it beat us twice. Study the film and see why the Cards defense had success at stopping our offense and adjust. Special teams..... I am honestly not sure what to do there. Again, see why these teams are getting penetration and do something to stop it!

If it was just an off night then we should see an immediate turnaround. If it lingers, then I would say it is much more complicated than that.

I respect your opinion, but elite teams do not have off nights, particularly against inferior opponents. Elite teams prepare, scheme, and execute. Last night, the coaches in all aspects of the game let this team and fan base down. The only thing that will partially redeem this season is to beat the gamecocks at the end of the month. Given how they are playing, that does not look likely.

That’s not 100% true. Elite DW4 lead Clemson lays a rotten egg against Pitt yet rebounded to win it all. We also almost lost to Troy that year. In fact, quite a few games were closer than anyone wanted them to be. Cardiac cats for sure.
I do agree it’s not a one off thing. Since 2020 it’s been a steady decline which started to spiral faster after 2021. Wes Goodwin defense has made the biggest decline in on field product. Dabo has always been horrible at special teams and clock management.
I honestly wouldn’t be shocked at any losses going forward this year. Dabo seems to be pushing Riley to run the offense Dabo’s way. I cite the many single high safety and zero coverages looks Louisville gave us yet we ran it up the middle against and 8-10 man box. That’s Dabo. Going for one when two is the only sensible play.
Dabo needs to fire a bunch of coaches and hire the best available or unavailable. Pay them. We have the money. No more GA or analyst promoted from within. This experiment is over. Our greatest seasons we had the best coordinators and position coaches money could buy. Not a bunch of former players/buddies/family with zero experience filling important position coaching and coordinator jobs.

You may be right, but as you imply, the Pitt game was an aberration. The phantom PI penalties and the bogus unnecessary roughness call doomed us in the Pitt game. Remember the heinous referees?

But it wasn't a one offnight. The signals that our defense has serious problems have been there all season. All it took was for one team to have a good enough defense to make our offense struggle and the wheels just came off.
This is not a one off. We are a mediocre team made to look way better than we really are because so many of our ACC oppnents can't even muster mediocre.

Completely agree. That game last night made no sense. At first I was irate at Wes and the D then I realized we had 7 points and 180yds.
Losing sucks. Losing in bewildering ways where there was no identity or testicular fortitude makes it worse. We didn’t even go down swinging, we went quietly. That makes the empty pit in the stomach feeling linger a lot longer

It’s clear Dabo has his mind on things other than football these days. Maybe which beach house he’s going to visit after the seasons over, or if he’s going to add that trampoline room onto his house or build a house just for it. The most important aspect of his job is having that team ready to play on Saturdays. He’s not been getting that done for the past four seasons. It’s smacks of lack of focus from him which trickles down to everyone in the program. If Dabo were a CEO, and the company’s market position went from top five in the industry to 20th, and he’s being paid top five money, he’d already be out the door. We owe him time for winning to national championships, but at some point, he’s got to turn it around or step down. He’ll never be fired from Clemson.

I like your post but I'm not so sure we lost to an inferior team. They kicked our butt in all three aspects of the game. Two more blocked field goals. Laughable in a sick way.

They certainly were not inferior last night but the way they have played over the season led us, and most everyone else, to believe this should have been a double digit win for us and not the other way around.

Yeah will have to say this one falls on Dabo 110%, he should have gathered whole team in front of everyone and coaches alike and just layed into them even his self after the 1st quarter. But I did not see that and needed to happen big time.

I'm on board with this take.
While I believe we have the more talented team on paper, we came out flat and Louisville wasn't THAT far down the talent board to allow us to sleep walk to victory like a truly inferior team.
Also, folks don't give Brian Brohm and his staff enough credit. He was a GIANT KILLER at Purdue. The same Purdue teams that'd give Ohio State and the big boys fits every year.
That being said, I definitely didn't like the energy we came in with last night. You'd think they were at practice yesterday versus a prime time game. We deserved the whoopin' for whatever mindset the team entered with yesterday.

We just got our tiger tails handed to us at home at night on a big stage, doesn't get any worse than that, just embarrassing, we were bad just about in every phase. I will say Mafia played his tail off, but other than that the rest were pretty flat, as well as our coaches.

This is "it", yes. L'ville showed up with the better team - in my opinion, both talent and preparedness of players/coaches. How CU got here has been a very slow devolution. 3-8 versus teams finishing in the top 25 since 2021 <-- that speaks volumes. Like so many others, we've seen this movie before (Hatfield/West/Bowden) - it happens to the best of them.

it's it looked too be such a complete lack of intensity and breakdowns across the board. Terrible punta, blocked field goals, lack of tackling, missed blocks, dropped passes, bad passes, and horrible coaching.

It was a comedy of errors but no one from Clemson is laughing. Unfortunately, a lot of folks outside of Clemson are doubled over.

4 seasons I think we're just "ANOTHER" team. We're not ELITE anymore. Dabo doesn't fight with every resource to keep this program ELITE and it shows.
The last four seasons we've lost to mediocre NC state mediocre Pitt team mediocre SCar team "decent" ND team depleted Tennessee team mediocre Duke team........blownout another mediocre NC state team mediocre Louisville team.
we haven't beaten anyone of significance............AND we've struggled against some very poor opponents over the last several years.
Dabo's responsible for the ENTIRE FALL of this program b/c of his own holier than thou high ground that he's decided to stand on.

Good point. Unless things change we will be the next tier (15-25 in the polls) nearly every year. Pretty decent but doesn’t strike fear in anyone. Like Bowden teams but only slightly better

This team got bullied last night. I though the offense maybe turned a corner, but it really hasnt, despite an upgrade in talent. The play calling was, once again, befuddling. Not sure where they go from here. And Ill say it right now, Wes is a terrible defensive coordinator. As our recruiting continues to trail off, i fully expect that side of the ball to be a complete disaster in the coming years. Lots of soul searching to do for this program.

One of the few positive byproducts of college football becoming professional and without any rules is that at least I get over the losses more quickly.

the kind of listless, unimaginative, gutless, slow-plodding play we saw last night is now a part of Clemson "culture". Because after two weeks of healing and supposed preparation, this team was not ready to play, and when it was clear that they were in for a fight they had no response. When the opposing team resorted to a dirty, no-class blocking technique our defensive coaches had no answer. We lose a bad call on a onside kick recovery and just give up, allowing the opponent to just run it up the gut and ram it down our throats for a touchdown on the next play.
The guy making over $10M a year is ultimately responsible. Considering the importance of last night's game and ALL the games going forward to Clemson's ultimate success this season, that kind of failure for a guy with that much compensation warrants termination.
