I think we learned something from the bowl game. With better play calls and fewer red zone fumbles, we’ll be okay. I’m not looking for the explosive offenses we had during our playoff runs, but I think we’ll control the ball more and be solid. With our great defense, it will be enough.

If he could eliminate the boneheaded turnovers under pressure we’d be good for sure.
Obviously it was only the spring game but he was still making bad reads that either lead to or should’ve lead to turnovers.

If we had a decent OL and some better receivers, zi suspect we’d be much happier. We didn’t sing to this level overnight, and it’ll take a little time to back to prominence.

Well, it might, but the journey of a million miles begins with a single step. I’d say our journey is way further along than a single step. JMO, but I see us well underway to much better times. Time will tell!!!

We learned nothing from the bowl game. He was making the same exact mistakes as he did all year long.
He doesn't sense pressure and is awful at navigating the pocket which led to several of Kentucky's 9 sacks. He doesn't trust reads and has to see guys open rather than anticipating them open which led to an INT instead of a wide open TD to Briningstool.
You're ignoring the process because the result went our way.

Last year was essentially his freshman year. I prefer to cut him some slack rather than focus on everything negative I can find and get myself depressed four months before the first snap.
When I said we learned something, I wasn’t just referring to Cade. He’s not Deshaun or Trevor, but he can manage our offense, which will focus more on ball control rather than a quick score.

Essentially his freshmen year? I didn't realize guys were essentially freshmen until halfway through their careers. He'd been at Clemson for 2 years by the bowl game and was still making the same high school level mistakes.
Our offense lacks the outside playmakers and the offensive line play to be successful with a game manager at QB. If all he's going to do is be a game manager we're in for another year of one of the worst offenses in football.

I'm the one being silly because I don't buy that a guy who's gone through spring and summer twice isn't "basically a freshman"? If you want to call a guy who missed their first year because of injury that kept them from participating in camp and practicing "basically a freshman" fine, but Cade wasn't that. He enrolled early. He hasn't had a serious injury to cost him real time. He was not "basically a freshman" just because he didn't start. All you're doing is making up excuses.

He was a freshman last year if you consider the whole picture. No, he’s not Trevor Lawrence or Deshaun Watson, but he has tremendous skill which made him a 5 star player.
He will be a sophomore in this system. Time to put up or sit down.

Most often QBs take time to develop. Cade has raw skills, obviously, and he’s a more typical QB in that they’re really not ready until their junior and senior seasons. Your take looks awfully ignorant when taken in the context of the game and the way it’s always been.
Do you buddy. But if Cade takes some steps forward I fully expect to see you back claiming the ignorance.

No. Cade is bad in every aspect of the game and he’s dumb. He NEVER improved on his decision making. He can’t run. He’s not agile enough to get going. Goes down on touches. Pocket presence is non existent. Can’t read a defense. Doesn’t make any presnap changes because he’s clueless. What did I leave out?

Enough to beat FSU, twice maybe, and reclaim our conference title. Enough to make the 12 team playoff and win at least one game. Beyond that, I don’t know. But it’s a couple of steps forward.
Will we beat Georgia? I doubt it. Just being honest. We’ll be 12-14 point underdogs most likely. But I’m counting on the defense to keep the game closer than that, and if we can avoid turnovers, not lose the field position battle, and enter the fourth quarter in a one score game, then anything can happen.

One great drive does not cover up the rest of his poor play. We saw the same Cade in the spring game. Based on what we have seen up to this point he is every bit as bad if not worse than DJ. I’d argue worse because DJ didn’t turn it over as much.
Now is there a chance Cade finally puts it together. Yeah sure, it’s possible. We just can’t say as we sit here today that we are better off with Cade. No proof.

I was about to mention that very thing. You beat me to it. People have short memories when it comes to DJU. Anybody remember NC State for example? Or the SC game? Cade is much better.
Don’t forget that we’ve seen significant changes at OC since Cade has arrived. The instability has surely affected him. Now he’s entering his second season with the same OC. Let’s see how he does. I agree that he needs to prove himself on the field. It’s time for him to show what he can do.
One more thing. I blame a lot of our ills last year on more than just the QB. First of all, the opposing defense was on him before he could make any reads. I think the OL will be better this year. The receivers were subpar last year. I think our corps will be much improved. There was something odd about several exchanges between Cade and Shipley last year. That cost us a couple of games. Let’s just say I don’t blame Cade for that. And why we tried to run Shipley into the teeth of the defense time and time and time again, I will never know. I’m glad Will Shipley was a Tiger, but I think our run game will take a step forward this year.

but Cade beat Coots his last attempt but w/o a freaking TD.
I’d say Tiger FB is still Not in a Natty win situation this year and maybe not even in a few years down the road since our boat may has passed since no proven elite QB in 3-4 years..and not taking transfers to speed up the process of inserting better players quickly.
I do like Dabo’s high school player recruiting mantra and bringing those loyal players along in the system, BUT.

DJU lost to Notre Dame (away), Cade beat Notre Dame (home).
DJU lost to SC (home*), Cade beat SC (away).
Cade rescued us in the ACC Championship game vs. UNC that DJ was no doubt going to lose.
DJU lost to Georgia throwing a pick 6. Cade? TBD.
I think Cade has performed better than DJU so far. He hasn’t been a generational QB like some people predicted, but I feel more confident with him under center (figuratively speaking) than DJU. I used to cringe every snap with DJU. I’m willing to wait and see what Cade can do this year.
*That SC game still makes me sick to my stomach.

That new helmet communication thing this year may be the thing that can make the difference with DJ. He's always struggled trying to figure out pre-snap reads and what the defense is doing. Now the coaches will be able to give him a clue.
