Morris' play calling works in high school!

Sep 21, 2014, 7:24 AM

It is amazing the pattern of play calling that has been shown by Chad Morris. His plays work against high school and weak college teams but against top talent it is not effective. It has a high margin of error and it requires players to make plays that don't fit their skill. Please find a head coaching job but I think that ship is sailing.

Disagree - It is not the play, but lack of execution

Sep 21, 2014, 7:36 AM

The players made so many mistakes on plays that turned out to be critical in the game.
We made way to many mistakes on the field.
Coaches need to continue to provide the experience and opportunity to learn.
Young people don't learn it by just doing it a few dozen times. It needs continual repetition of drills, reminding, explaining to get it truly habitual.
Why do you think it is so hard to give up smoking, or other habits that we have spent a lifetime creating?

Agreed there is some philosophical differences we can disagree with Morris on. They should have prepped Watson to be better under center, but that is changing what he has learned for the last 5 years as a player. He didn't take snaps under center and isn't as experienced or comfortable - and won't be fore a few years.

The missed assignments are a product of asking kids to do things they can't do. On the throw back pass to tight end Mcullough he was asking a tackle to go and make a block on an outside linebacker in space against quality players. It will not happen. Then storms the field yelling at him for missing it because in high school that can be blocked. Your point of lack of execution backs up everything I am talking about. Kevin Steele tried to hide behind lack of execution and missed assignments, ALL COACHING!

Coaching and experience

Good point.
But I would also add the players lack of experience in front of a crowd, under pressure, was an added factor.
The "team" failed - I consider Coaches and Players and Support Staff and Fans all part of the team. We play together, we win together, we lose together. Each part could have been better.
