We have to be able to withstand 5 rollovers at 80mph with unbelted passengers, hit a pedestrian at 10mph without causing serious trauma, and get 80mpg with emissions equivalent to an earthworm farting. Remove those constraints and it would be cars like that galore.

On one hand you have the likely kill switch that's going to literally get people killed.
And then you have the data privacy aspect because we know car companies are going to sell that data to insurers.

It's for sure going to tank sales, among other things. The lawsuits manufacturers will face will be astounding too, imagine if your kid is having a medical emergency but your car won't start because you had a glass of wine at dinner.
You know it won't be reliable at all, either. Then you'll have to take your car to the dealer once or twice a year to have it recalibrated to the tune of $2k or something outrageous.

or coming back from Mainland Container on Sundays. There's a strip of about 200 feet of sidewalk that to go from Center street to Mainland you have to ride your GC on, and the cops sit across the street an pull people for that. Then they check to see if you've been drinking.
I was at Santi's about a month ago and saw they had someone on a GC pulled on center street extension...making some poor dude do stupid human tricks with 4 other people on the GC.
I wonder if MPPD ever talk to their N Chs cop buddies? I can hear that conversation:
MPPD: "So what cases have y'all been bustin?"
NCPD: "Well, we had a shootout after a CDV case last night in Wal Mart parking lot, and busted some cartel member selling 2 pounds of meth out of the back of his trunk at N Chs High School. Yeah...he was a a junior AND on the football team. How about you"
MPPD: "I'll tell ya! I took DOWN some middle aged dad driving his golf cart back from Mainland container after the Bills game last week! You should have seen the look on his neighbors faces when I made him do the walk of shame in the middle of Center street! It was quite a crowd. I ALMOST unsnapped the holster on my taser! I had to tell a kid to quit recording it on his I-phone. Turned out somehow dad passed all the drunk tests though, so I didn't really have anything. But by the time I was done with him it was after sunset, so I gave him a ticket for driving his golf cart after dark!"

I once got to watch a judge bless out a MPPD officer over all the BS DUI cases they were bringing and how they were clogging up the system while they tried to prosecute violent crimes in N. Charleston.

I have a diesel which uses electric to start but it has the rear pump in the transmission so it can be pushed to start. The lights, of course are electric and the power windows but besides those (which you don't need) the only other feature is a an electric vacuum pump in the trunk which serves only the auto door lock function. The keys will lock and unlock doors
The shut down switch is a operated by mechanical vac with a small simple vac switch on the ignition or you can pinch the fuel line and starve it.
It's having its 39th birthday in a few months.

Which is pretty amazing.
I'm surprised someone hasn't reinvented the K-car. Basically a similar platform used for cheap, dependable sedans, hatchbacks, and a small truck.
In a time when the average auto cost is in the $50K range..an average auto cost in the high teens/low 20's would really disrupt the market.

Seems like a good move to disrupt the market. I'd love to have another truck but I'm not paying $20K for a used truck. I'd more likely buy one from the 70's and just fix it.

"...equivalent of about $10,000 when it launches in Thailand..."
Also in Thailand....based on information from the renowned private Bangkok Hospital: Heart Bypass Surgery (CABG): $13,000. Heart Valve Replacement: $25,300.
I'm thinking it'll hit the lots in the good ole US over $30K.
