Are we really recruiting this highly rated WR in the 2024 class to play Safety?

The Clemson Insider lol, last place I'd ever go to for recruiting information. We are in fact recruiting him as a safety, but along the lines of Derion Kendrick, he would be given a shot at WR.

Everything you said is correct--BUT!
Matthews is rated as a 5 star as an Athlete, WR, and Safety by the different rating services! He's actually rated higher as an Athlete and Safety than he is as a WR by the these different rating services.
Most of the Clemson official & un-official posts I've seen have been about him being recruited as a backfield defender. However, in the "2024 Clemson Football Top Recruiting Targets" list posted on TigerNet, Matthews is listed in the "Athlete" group (versus either the Safety, Cornerback, or WR groups). I'm only an amateur poster, so I may not know how that is correctly interpreted. However, my understanding is that if he accepts any Clemson offer, he'll be looked at at every feasible position that he could be useful to the Tigers. Then based on his particular preference, as well as where the Tigers thinks he best suited/evaluated, and also where he is most needed, he will play one position (or several positions). Based what I see every year, his playing position could change every year he attends Clemson--again, based on a combination of his individual preferences, what the Clemson staff thinks is his best position, and also where is he most needed.
