start QBs can drive down the field twice on our defense. I just don’t think that ever happens if BV is the DC. Think back of how many goal line stances we had under him.

play 1 - 50/50 jump ball to Beaux Collins . Any WRU wr would have caught that
play 2 - a less than one yard run. Any Clemson RB before Shipley would have ran that ball for more.
but don't worry. those are just unlucky bounces . practice looks good. and for three years, these guys i have specially called out keep getting better

along with the three outs in the second half. Then what Miami did wouldn’t have mattered. You can’t expect the defense to hold every team under 15 points every game. Miami does have talent, so you can’t just keep screwing up on offense and expect nothing to go wrong

Overall the defense has played well this year. However, at critical times against FSU and Miami, they failed to create stops. You could argue, BV's defenses thrived in critical situations, especially short yardage and goal line.

In 2021, BVs defense would almost give up the whole field on their final drive just for a fluke turnover to occur. BC at home drive the length of the field and within the red zone, snapped it over the QBs head. We couldn’t stop them. NCST two years in Clemson came down to OT or a fluke missed FG. Critical mistakes are part of the game, and we’ve benefited from our fair share. This season it has felt like we are now giving away more than our fair share of critical mistakes.
BV was incredible—he is the best defensive mind in CFB, but his defense gave up a good bit of yards in critical situations.

Agree, we have talent but the only dog I see on this defense with swagger is Wiggins. Barrett Carter, Makuba, and Trotter are really good players and you could probably put them in this category.
Parker and Woods seem to have a little swagger and attitude as well. One could argue BV had a way to get the dog out of guys...

BV used to call them Road Dogs. Wilkins, Ferrell and Skalski, those guys played with passion. XT on the other hand, after six years, violated team rules and let his coaches and his players down. No discipline and no leadership. Talent alone will not work.

This is the truth. BV is the best defensive mind in CFB, but his defenses had their fair share of mishaps. Even the bowl game in 2021, we gave up a first down at the end of the game but Iowa St QB fumbled it on his own. We were up 16 on Louisville, and if not for a boneheaded play by stepping out of bounds on 4th down, their WR gets a first down if not into the endzone. BC was driving down the field in 2021 and the center snapped it over the QBs head.
Mistakes are part of the game, but BVs defenses were not perfect.

I absolutley concur with both you. BV's D were not perfect. Games against LSU, OSU, and losses to Pitt and Syrause case and point.
But when the games were on the line (nut cuttin time he called it) like ND in 15, Lville, TAM, FSU, OSU, etc, etc I always had a feeling someone would step up and make a big play on D.
Was really disheartened how we were just flat bullied in the 4th quarter the other night. Just have a feeling now that the other team is the one who will make the play.

and more to do with our Offense.
1) Their OC did a great job calling plays and kept him out of trouble. All low risk plays.
2) Their Oline is MUCH improved over last year.
But more importantly...
3) Our offense couldn't sustain a drive the last 20 minutes and thus we keep giving the ball back over and putting the defense back on the field.
4) We were already down a starter on D Line, putting more stress on the rest of the d line.

You do realize our offense only had about 3 minutes of possession in the 4th quarter??? Or don't you??....therein lies the problem. We can't run the ball.

We lost this game for the same reason we lost other games this season. We turn the ball over way too often in critical situations. We fumble going in for a TD. We fumble while driving on Miami's side of the field. We aren't good on offense and we constantly shoot ourselves in the foot with turnovers. The defense is not the problem, imo.

The defense got gassed in the second half because the offense couldn't keep the ball. Go back and look at the tape or gamecast of every play - Miami didn't play a single down on Clemson's side of the field until the 3rd quarter. Other than 1 busted play allowing the 80yd TD run, the defense was good in the first half.
No defense regardless of how great it is can play 13 minutes in 1 quarter. We did it to Alabama in the NC game in 2018. We kept the ball almost the entire 4th Qtr steadily pushing down the field until time expired.

Did you notice that on 3rd and long in the 4th quarter, Porky went soft coverage, 3 man rush and gave them a first down each time. Why does he do that?????
