McMillian - Curious how a 5 star from Ga ends up at OSU

Like it or not 5 star guys in the south east usually don;t pick Clemson, USC, NC St, UNC, etc
However, they rarely leave the southeast with Bama, UGA, Auburn, Fla St, Fla etc all being options keeping them close to home with a big time program
Just strikes me as odd that a southern guy goes to OSU. Sure Clemson got Sammy and CJ but they wanted out of a bad area of Florida and Clemson offered a way out and a beautiful campus etc that they needed. that doesn;t happen often. Sure USC got Clowney but that was a once ever chance they got him.
This is just as odd as a 5 star texas guy leaving Texas, Okla, LSU etc to go to Penn St or Clemson, or where ever. or a California guy leaving there to go to Michigan, etc
I guess it isn;t so much a particular school but within 500 miles he had numerous schools with good programs and academics to choose from
just doesn't happen often so it caught my attention

If I were a big time recruit, distance would be a small factor in my decision. I would go to a place I feel most comfortable.

You're right, they usually don't pick Clemson.

I can add a few more than Sammy CJ, what about Steward
Sure there are a few sprinkled in here and there and more than USC has ever gotten
I guess my point was Clemson maybe has 5 or 6 5 stars signed over 15 years of 15-23 recruits a year so 1 out of ever 100 are 5 stars so sure Clemson doesn;t pull them but between Clemson Fla Fla St UGA BAma, Auburn, LSU they rarely leave the southeast
I guess it was stupid but still rare that a guy gets out of the southeast or the notheast or out west to go to a school. No big deal nothing to rip me over just rarely see a guy leave with so many good opportunities close by. I guess the bigges thing was I knew he was good, when I saw OSU I thought maybe he stayed close to home to go to a good OSU school. I was wrong he was from Ga

any other 4 star do you? I don't have anywhere close to as much faith as you do in the rating systems and even less in those who do the rating, if so.
After all, how well has Nkemdiche done so far at Ole Miss? He's not a bust, but he isn't "all that" just yet. His "promise" of being great is still what carries him. His numbers were okay, more like average (7 TFL I think for example). If GT beats them in the bowl - which I think is entirely possible and Vegas doesn't give a wide spread either - what does that say about getting a good amount of 5 star talent against a school that gets a lot of 3 star talent??? Big if at this point.....

Well imo, its hard to get these 5 star recruits to clemson

Yes we have had very good recruiting classes the last few years but we only have 1 championship to show for it. Until we start winning the ACC on a regular basis and consistently make it to BCS bowl games + win them then itss going to be while until we get consistent 5stars every year. We are heading I'm the right direction tho. Dabo has us winning more games here than the last decade and with an exception to a few players, we haven't consistently recruited this well in a very long time.

Five star players. In the last 4 recruiting classes, you have brought in five five star players (granted, 4 of those were in 2011 and the other has yet to sign). But still, that's actually very good.
That's tied with Georgia. Two more than Texas A&M. And only one less than Ohio State (and until yesterday, yall were tied with them).
For what it's worth. My Hokies have only one five star recruit in that time period. And you would have to go back to the class of 2001 to get to five five star prospects for the Hokies (and two of those were in 2001 and in 2002).

OSU is a national program

It is unusual/rare but not odd. Ohio State competes nationally and not just against the Big 10. I think it used to be a lot more common back before every single game was televised that the studs from down south would go to the big Midwest schools.
This is how Nebraska used to whoop up on people. Tommy Fraizer was from Florida. Tony Rice left South Carolina to go lead Notre Dame to a championship. Thought those are now ancient examples, it happens.
Some kids want to get far away from home. And weather isn't that big a deal until you get into December.
Nothing to see here.
