OT- Do it yourself Pool

May 4, 2017, 10:57 AM

Kids are wanting a pool. Obviously a terrible investment but its just money right??

Anyone ever installed their own pool? You can basically buy your own "kit" that comes with walls, liner, etc.

Had a pool guy out and he quoted $50k for a gunite pool. Uh, no thanks.

Do you also sit in the upperdeck?***

You could just dig a hole in the ground and fill it with

May 4, 2017, 11:06 AM

water. Your pool will probably get bigger as erosion occurs too.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Obviously you said you have kids

May 4, 2017, 11:07 AM

You probably live in the same neck of the woods as FBCoachSC®. Assuming you do

Step 1 - buy 2 shovels
Step 2 - tell those little faukers to dig
Step 3 - place tarp in hole
Step 4 - Make the kids take out the trash while you enjoy an ice cold schlitz in your new pool

Make a pallet/tarp pool

May 4, 2017, 11:07 AM

It'll cost a few hundred bucks and last you until the end of summer. Then you can take it down and be rid of it. Seriously.

I've done this!

May 4, 2017, 11:15 AM

It's the perfect spring project and is a fun way to spend time with your kids while setting this up!

Step one: Buy the kit. Duh
Step 2: Get rid of the instruction manual it's usually written in poor english and more confusing than helpful.
Step tres: Fill up your yeti cooler with ice and some cold adult beverages. You're going to need them.
Step 4: Get those kids out from in front of the TV and outside to help.
Step 5: I assume you've picked out the location so the next step will be to measure and mark out where the pool is going to go.
Step 6: Give each kid a shovel and tell them to start digging. The sooner they get the hole dug the sooner they can swim.
Step seven: Pull up a lawn chair, crack yourself a cold beverage, and strip down to your wife beater.
Step 8: When the cooler is empty or the hole is dug (whichever comes first), push the pool kit into the hole.
Step nien: Poor gas on the kit and flick in a match.
Step ten: Don't be a redneck and get the granite pool.

$50K!?!? How big of a pool are you trying to build?

May 4, 2017, 12:02 PM

My pool is 18 X 36 and didn't cost anywhere near that much.

Fiberglass is a good option too. My neighbor installed a fiberglass pool. The contractor dug the hole and plumbed it one day. The next day, they dropped the pool into place and filled it with water.

Your neighbor? Was it your coot, bama or ohio state
