Some have already mentioned the impact of COVID on Clemson recruiting, when we couldn’t have recruits visit campus. I’m beginning to think that may have had a bigger impact than suspected. Dabo is a natural salesman and extremely effective in person on his home turf. Don’t we currently have the #3 ranked class for 2025? Assistant coaches, the transfer portal, NIL - they may all have played a part in the program’s “decline” the last few years, but virtual recruiting may have been a bigger factor than imagined and that factor is now gone!

We've had too many busts and misses the past several years. It happens I guess.

QB and OL play less than stellar to put it nicely. Very spoiled with how well DW4 and TL16 transitioned from HS to College. Now we see how difficult it really is even when you land the best QBs in the country out of HS.

Blaming COVID for our recruiting is a cop out, especially since we still signed some pretty outstanding recruits during that time.

I like that he stated how even if we were "falling off", its very much relative. The fact Clemson is still ranked top 10 is a total compliment. We haven't had those bad a$$ teams, pure and, simple. I also dont think it's hard for us to get right back in there too.

Man, he said the same things repeatedly so many times over that I almost thought I was reading an allorangeallthetime52 post. Add a couple of painfully long run-on sentences and it’ll be a dead ringer.

I was thinking about this. If we had won both overtime games last season, which we had both both games won and just gave them away, we would’ve been back in the ACC title game with the potential to have won 11 or 12 games. It’s hard to say an 11 or 12 win season is a bad season.

Yes, there is definitive proof that we've fallen off.

2015: 14–1, finished #2 in both Coaches and AP poll.
2016: 14–1, finished #1 in both Coaches and AP poll.
2017: 12–2, finished #4 in both Coaches and AP poll.
2018: 15–0, finished #1 in both Coaches and AP poll.
2019: 14–1, finished #2 in both Coaches and AP poll.
2020: 10–2, finished #3 in both Coaches and AP poll.
2021: 10–3, finished #16 in Coaches poll and #14 in AP poll.
2022: 11–3, finished #12 in Coaches poll and #13 in AP poll.
2023: 9–4, finished #20 in both Coaches and AP poll.
The recent trend is startling:
From 2015-2020, our average finish in the polls was 2.17. We made the playoffs every year, played in four national championships, winning two.
From 2021-2023, our average finish in the polls was 15.8. We didn't make the playoffs or compete for a national championship any of those years.
