Yup, u knew it was coming....see Mr. Lawrence what is so risky about intramural basketball. I will give props to the kid wanting to represent his alma mater and school by playing his senior year. But INTRAMURALS?!?! I hope that is one swanky t shirt the winners get!

I am not thrilled with guys playing basketball while on football scholarship, but young men with an abundance of enengy are better off playing basketball than getting into other trouble. In 1975, I was a sophomore at Clemson. Two guys walked into Fike Field House and started playing a pick up game of BB with us. Later that year, the two guys I played against, formed a freshman intramural team. The all freshman team won the over all intramural championship. The two players were Steve Fuller and Dwight Clark. No one told them they could not play either.

Yeah, and here's what you get. Basketball! Waste of time. If this guy has knee reconstruction surgery right away he can probably with intense rehab be ready to play this fall. What they can do surgically with knee injuries nowdays is next to miraculous.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well the good news is that with the new RS rule he can

Feb 20, 2019, 11:48 AM

RS next year and still get some snaps late in the year if he's healthy and the opportunity presents itself.

In all seriousness, it's bullshyatt that his school wouldn't

allow him to graduate early, which led to him playing basketball, which led to a torn ACL.

I teach and my school does not allow students to graduate early. I hate that it happened to him, but it is certainly feasible that that is the reason.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why do schools have a policy/rule like this?

Feb 20, 2019, 12:40 PM

What is the possible downside of letting any student, not just an athlete, graduate early if they've earned enough credits to do so?

Ha! I do not teach in the public school system, which does allow that. All of our students are college bound and I suppose they don't want to open up that can of worms allowing an athlete to do it. If he attends a public school, there had to have been a reason...maybe he was lacking a credit. I don't really know, but my point was that he did not have the choice so he was probably just trying to stay in shape.

Your top FB players out playing intramural basketball, and not in the weight room?? Hey guys, HS is over. This is big-time college football. What about that does anyone not understand??

Feb 20, 2019, 4:01 PM [ in reply to In all seriousness, it's bullshyatt that his school wouldn't ]

Now great! And possibly with this stupidity he misses a chance at a possible career in the NFL?? Let's encourage all of them to go sky-diving, deep-sea diving, and spear fishing for sharks. If you are a top player at championship football team, and have a shot at a life-changing career in the NFL, don't you reasonably make some sensible adjustments in favor of that? Or do you go racing up and down a hardwood floor playing a meaningless game of "intramural" basketball? And then wonder why you are sitting with a torn ACL?? Jeez!

Well, he must have some pretty good hops if he was coming down from an "alley" .
I know that had to be a hard call to make to B.V. or Dabo .

He should be just fine in the long run , just a little delay and a lot of rehab .

God bless him and help him have quick and complete recovery .

Can’t understand any school not letting someone graduate early, especially when they’re enrolled in a college and could be taking college classes this semester instead of obviously bs classes since he already had enough credits. Seems counterproductive.

Re: TNET: Clemson LB signee suffers knee injury playing basketball

Feb 20, 2019, 3:20 PM

There is absolutely no reason for our football team to have an intramural basketball or any other team. Way too risky since we are a football school. If it was Duke, then that's another story.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's it. Ban Basketball on campus.

Feb 20, 2019, 4:25 PM

All of it.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ban being a student!

Feb 20, 2019, 6:02 PM

You're here to play football...go to class, cause it looks good. But...mingle with the little people...pretend you're having fun? Come on, you may only be 18 or 19, but you're in the big-time now. You are a football player. Stop trying to be a person!

Been practicin' my sarcasm...a bit rusty! I do ok? ;)

Re: Ban being a student!

Feb 24, 2019, 2:59 PM

A "person" with a meaningful football future needs to be racing up and down a basketball court? And then wonders why he has a torn ACL? There's no fix for this other than reconstructive knee surgery. Talk about pain! Post-surgery and rehab will be a major learning experience, which will very likely cure any remaining itch to play intramural basketball.

Re: Ban being a student!

WEIRD. Didn’t seem to hurt DW’s career. Or the second one.
