Martins a great guitar. I play a Les Paul and wouldn't trade it for a Martin. Les Paul, in my opinion, makes the best guitar but its an opinion. You can tune a Les Paul to sound like a strat or a telecaster.

A Martin flat top and a Gibson solid body with humbucker pups are hardly comparable instruments. Most pickers would use them for very different purposes. Just sayin’.

Totally correct! Even comparing the Martin for sale here with the traditional Martin Flattops (D-18 and D-28) is apples and oranges. All great guitars, just different.

I agree with that because I play a Les Paul Gibson with humbuckers. I now that he is not selling a strat or a telecaster I was referring to tuning on the les Paul.

Are you talking about set-up??
Jan 19, 2020, 6:00 PM
|
|
You can tune ANY guitar to whatever tuning you want. Standard, slack D, open G for slide (think delta blues or Knopfler on “Money for Nothing”), etc.
To set up a Strat or a Tele sound like a Les Paul you gotta replace the single coil for a double coil pickup.

I agree but I am speaking of the way you can tune the bridge and the neck along with the volume knobs.

But the Martin is an Acoustic. I’ve been playing guitar for 10 + years and I don’t know how anyone who plays would have this conversation. Pretty much every guitarist in history would have an acoustic AND an electric. You can’t take that Gibson anywhere and play it without an amp. See where I’m going?

Look at the Martin that he is selling. It is a Martin Acoustic/Electric. Some Acoustics come with an electric combo.

The weightier one from the 80's may have been made from heavy metal .

I’ve got one of the LP special double cutaways, with the P-90 pickups. Solid mahogany but no maple top, so it’s a little lighter. I’ve found it super versatile.

There is a way to tune the Les to sound closer to a strat. Neck volume half and bridge volume full. Tone knobs to zero. I did this on a Fender Mustang LT25.

Just to have some fun. That way I don't have to buy a strat. Doesn't sound exact but close. Amp makes a difference.

You do realize Martin guitars are acoustic...

[ in reply to Re: Martin Guitar ] |

...and a Les Paul is an electric by Gibson...don't you?
Also a Les Paul has very different sound than a (Fender) Strat or Tele. Primarily, different (shorter) string length on the Gibson's allow for looser strings and easier bending notes.
Your stomp boxes actually make them all sound the same.

You do realize that an acoustic/electric just means it is an acoustic guitar that has a pickup inside so you can plug it into the house PA right? Marti. Doesn’t make any “electric” guitars like you are thinking. You can play all acoustic/electrics with or without power and get the full tone and sound you are looking for. You only need power when playing for a large room or really any real live show.

$1,200. That model is selling for $1,500-$1,600. It’s in mint condition. And those do not include a nice hard case like mine.

Since the football board now is a marketplace for musical instrument sales......
Anybody got a Heidenhofer electric trombone? Prefer one made in Bavaria not a cheap Malaysian knockoff.
