Clemson healed today.

A lot of people in this message board failed to appreciate the significance of the wound in Clemson family that Radakovich's handling of Leggett caused. It damaged our reputation in the baseball world. It was an absolute PR (and administrative) disaster. The greatest coaching tree in the history of the sport was angry at Clemson for a while.
Neff understood this and he fixed it. This is a good day. Clemson's reputation has been repaired, even as many Tiger fans apparently had no idea how much damage was caused.

Some on here openly criticized Neff. We found out today why he has the job.

I was wondering how long it would take for this to show up in an article. Glad it was quick.

I think the sun should come up later. I don't like it causing me to have to wake up so early.

This was similar to the firing of Danny

though not on the same scale. There are a lot of similarities in that the athletes, coaches for other sports and the Clemson community felt the fracture it caused within the athletic Department.
As an athlete in the late 90s, athletes and coaches still talked of Danny Ford as if he had just been fired the year before, despite it being 7-8 years prior. I remember how people were still upset so many years later. You could feel it in the athletic department.
I agree with you 100%. I think order has been restored on this front and the program can begin to move forward with more support, not just from the Clemson community, but also the other coaches that came through this program (ie. Corbin, Sully).

But I will. People romanticize the past. Leggett was a good coach, but he lacked the intangibles to make Clemson great.
Not many people have those intangibles, granted. Obviously Dabo does.
I'm grateful for what Jack did. I wish Monte had worked out, but I'm glad Neff pulled the trigger when he did instead of another year of mediocrity.
Clemson can be great...in everything (rowing, lacrosse, gymnastics, track & field). I don't think we should settle in any sport.
But baseball is special and I hope Bakich can take us higher than we've ever been.
Here's to Bill Willhelm, and Jack Leggett.

It wasn’t until today’s press conference that I got the vibe how much Monte Lee was an outsider. It’s kind of like if Clemson had stayed with Ken Hatfield for 7 seasons. The other vibe I got is Clemson has done much much better than Tommy West in an attempt to heal the wound. I think Bakich is going to do great.

It was definitely a terrible situation Monte was put in.

Clemson was an elite program that had a self-perception problem. (Thanks to the unusual success of our rival) So Monte was tasked with improving a program that had just fired the most successful coach in program history. This Hall of Fame coach was one of the most respected people in college baseball, with an insane coaching tree.
Clemson baseball fans were spoiled and forgot about the 90% of programs that fared worse than us during Jack's supposed decline (5 regionals in a row, 2 of which we made the finals). So the expectations and the situation Monte inherited were all out of whack. Radakovich was responsible for giving in to this ridiculousness and handling it like a #######. He injured Clemson family and rode TDP's wave and left us for Miami.

Several TNetter’s were calling for Jacks head while throwing out Monte Lees name as our next coach. IMO firing Jack Leggett was our 1st mistake and hiring Monte Lee was our 2nd mistake and Neff did not handling Coach Lee’s firing with Clemson Class.
You have to have some compassion for Coach Lee. He gave it his best and truly wanted bring Clemson Baseball back to Elite status. I believe many Clemson fan’s know the efforts and dedication you gave our baseball program. Wish you nothing but the best in your future.

after your siblings tried to throw him in a crappy retirement facility.
You guys simply do not understand the relationship Jack has with these elite coaches. They are like family. It's odd that certain people just can't understand that.
How are you guys seeing that repairing things with Leggett's tree is PART of this whole move? You guys don't understand the damage our reputation suffered in the college baseball world.

He was genuinely grateful just to be back in the building and seemed very sincere when he said he wants to help as much or as little as Coach Bakich would like.

Why wouldn’t anyone want jack back. He know this is bakich team but he will be glad to help in whatever ways! It’s a no brainer. I had a hof hs coach and he retired and his son took over. He still had his dad the hof coach in the dugout during games for a few years. Now he sits in the stands.
