I'm not sure how many of you are aware, but at least two automotive facilities shut down on 2nd & 3rd shift last Monday to compensate for employees being absent to watch the football game. 600-800 vehicles were not produced at each facility, depending on their respective assembly rate.
1) BMW in Greer SC (confirmed) 2) Hyundai in Montgomery AL (confirmed) 3) Mercedes Benz in Vance AL (probably, but I don't have confirmation) 4) Honda in Lincoln AL (Not sure on this one either) 5) Kia in West Point GA (non-production day previously announced, not related to game)
When you consider the entire supply chain, this is a huge impact across several southern states. Long run, it probably save the OEMs money since no one is buying cars right now.
Not saying it is good or bad, just interesting that a simple football game can have such a widespread impact.
