My plan for college football

8, 10-team "divisions", independent of conference structure (and as geographically balanced as possible)
Each team plays every team in its division; remaining games natural rivalries, charity, or whatever
Division championship games are first round of 16-team playoff
Division winners advance to 8-team bracket
Moneys paid to schools/conferences based on order of finish
Divisions can be tweaked or completely overhauled at completion of each season (with relegation)

No G5/P5; an undefeated season = a national championship
80 teams have a clear path to a championship each year
No freeloaders like traditional conference setup allows
A conference can have up to 16 playoff participants, depending on how the divisions are set up
Polls and playoff committees are irrelevant; EVERY divisional game matters, non division games don't
Regular season could be shortened to 11 games, if necessary

Two editorial comments:
1) If someone has already suggested this, then I agree with you
2) I'll start...what a stupid idea - this would never work

The biggest problem I see with your plan is that it

And I guess some committee will be needed to set/tweak divisions

Player compensation?
Academic requirements for student athletes?

Very, very happy- very, very proud.

Good questions

Maybe NIL funds pooled, and distributed based on team/individual performance
Academic requirements could stay as they are…all participants would still be students

You are right, though, there are a lot of factors I maybe failed to consider. Please see editorial comment #2.

I'm not saying your plan couldn't work, but the SEC and B1G schools have no reason to agree to any changes that would take away the advantages they currently enjoy. They would break away from the NCAA and create their own playoff before they would agree to that.
