prophetic post about Dabo and DJ
Dabo knows what he's doing. The L sucks b/c all we needed was a fg on the last drive of the 1st half. Maybe we needed more but that would have been a drive to build on.
Who knows which Cade would have shown up? ND or UNC? All we knew up until that point was Cade threw an INT at ND and since then DJ was serviceable. Its in the past brother and at the moment the future looks bright.

tongue-in-cheek, but I've gotta say that the "ND Cade" narrative that Dabo has been spouting is crap, and it's not fair to Cade. Kid was put in ice cold with the game in a hole, on his own 5 yard line and given a horrible, horrible play call to execute. I'll go to my grave defending the kid that his mistake on that play didn't define how he would have performed in that game in a normalized situation any more than it defined whether he was ready to take the reins at that point.

and such. I watch the games and that's it. I don't have interests in what they have to say before and after games, W or L. Now, we win a natty and I'll soak in all and anything that's Clemson. This sounds bandwagony
Do I wish Cade played against SCar, yes. Do I hate we lost that game, yes. Do I need to hear the coach speak afterward, eh.

I didn't expect to playoff anything this season until halftime of the UNC game. I believe Cade would have beaten USCe.
I think it's a shame. I'm disappointed to the max but I'm consoled knowing that we get to stomp a mud hole out of Ole Smokie's nutsak right in front of God and the hole world.
I can't remain depressed any longer.

Because we arguably gave those ### clowns the most undeserved win in the entire series when we were on the cusp of the greatest winning streak in the rivalry, and now we have to listen to bull #### that was silenced for seven years.

We've done a lot of winning here. Ain't had no 10 win season in 20 years before Dabo's first one. 40+ game home win streak. 437 games ending in odd numbered scores. Return of fluted cups. You gotta learn from the past to properly view the windshield.

Dec 7, 2022, 9:36 AM

they played up DJ.
I don't get why they insist on playing down Cade. Sure, one game does not make a career. And sure, he is likely in for some lumps, maybe as soon as the Orange Bowl. But DJ is now gone and Cade is our QB. Why keep downplaying his ability?
We all saw the spark he provided on both sides of the ball in the ACCCG. We had not seen real Clemson Football, the 2015-2020 version we have come to expect for two years, even in our best games under DJ.
So why keep trying to limit expectations with Cade?
He doesn't SEEM like a kid with a bad attitude. He doesn't SEEM cocky. But others have reported maybe he hasn't been the best citizen on the team? And sure, he did not look great at times we he played vs. Furman and vs. Syracuse, but dang, let us enjoy what we saw Saturday night.

freshman thinking he's the best thing since sliced bread and the coaches knowing he needs to keep working to reach his potential. He wouldn't be the first top recruit to read his press clippings.
Note: this is TOTAL speculation.

One other theory I’ve considered
Dec 7, 2022, 10:21 AM

Gotta head out the door after this so forgive the lack of any further discussion (although willmo will be grateful).
I think Dabo was stung by the external criticism when he benched KB for TL, and for all we know, it could have caused some internal dissension on the team as well. KB and DJ were both well liked, hard workers, and did everything asked of them. While Cade initially wasn’t the no-brainer substitution that TL was, Dabo probably knew that if he inserted him for any length of time, the difference would be too stark to ignore, so he compensated too hard in the opposite direction to not repeat that earlier scenario.

the way you're looking at it the way Dabo is looking at it. Your explanations are tending towards finding reasons why he probably agrees with you completely, but didn't do what you would have done because A) he's too stubborn, B) He got burned in some prior instance and is afraid C) something else...
Now, to be fair, the other side of this debate is doing it too in reverse. Dabo is right, so let me come up with explanations that would fill in plot holes that other people see.

No joke. However, I think Dabo's move to replace KB was justified on the field for years after that change.
Further thinking in that line causes me to speculate that Cade did need pushing, not just to build his skill vault but to build his 180 lb body to be strong and tough enough to physically take the beatings at this level.
Perhaps, yes speculation, Cade wasn't giving it all he had and DJ was the catalysis, the only catalysis to push him hard enough to make take him to being his best.
Frankly, I believe my speculation is far superior to, and much closer to accurate and practical than yours but give you credit for...J/K, again.

Would you even be mentioning the Hindenburg had they NOT used Hydrogen? Ditto for the rest. I'm glad the Hindenburg used hydrogen. It taught us a very good lesson on something NOT TO DO. And that's as important as being taught what TO DO.
Just how I see it.
Dabo has to run a football program. He can do like everyone else, make the same hollow promises all the other coaches make, or he can stand by his word. The fun is in the winning, but you can't appreciate the winning if you never lose (and learn and grow). TL said something recently to this effect. All star in high school, same in college, hardly ever lost a game, then bewm, he's in the NFL and only now learning what NOT to do. This is why I'd not recruit these 5-star guys playing at tiny prep schools. They are kings of their teams, schools, and beat up on lesser talent. But they learn a harsh lesson when they get to college, and they are prone to not learn as they've had so few losses.
I'm not going to complain about not making the CFP, with a 4-team playoff anyway. We won the ACC, were undefeated in our conference, and next year looks to be better, so hopefully our team (and coaches) learned something this year.
