LSU PSA for Baton Rouge!

Jan 3, 2020, 2:19 PM

The Chamber of Commerce of Baton Rouge and LSU invites you to spend a few hours in our lovely city, before or after LSU's loss. Baton Rouge translates variously as “Red Stick”, or “Red Pole” or “Red Member”, dating back to the time of the indigenous people and their dogs.

Baton Rouge has a vibrant art scene, featuring the world's heaviest ballet who present their yearly production of The Nutcracker – A Tale from the Bayou, setting the familiar holiday classic in 19th-century Louisiana. Don't miss Swine Palace, the professional theater company associated with LSU, and keep your ears open for for their Youth Orchestra, which features over 180 musicians under the age of 20. For those who like tours, there are swamp tours, oil refinery tours, and even tours up and down the mighty Mississippi!

Every year, “BR” hosts knock-off Mardi Gras parades, similar to the real one in New Orleans. Be sure to visit the open air Mall of Louisiana, largest in the state, which features a Red Robin and a Pottery Barn. Disenchanted with LSU football already? BR also has an Australian Rules Football team, and the Red Stick Roller Derby, the roller skating pride of the city, still grooving to disco after all these years!

If you enjoy just sitting in your car, don't forget that Baton Rouge is the 33rd-most congested metro area in the country. However, at a population rank of 67 out of 100, it has the second-highest ratio of population rank to congestion rank, higher than even the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Santa Ana metropolitan area, indicating a remarkably high level of congestion for the comparatively low population! Those with an adventurous side can re-walk the footsteps of infamous serial killer Sean Vincent Gillis, known as “The Other Baton Rouge Killer”, right by the LSU campus!

And hey, did someone say corn dogs? Well we got those too! Come burn a few hours in Baton Rouge. You'll be glad you did, and all your friends will jealously ask, “What's that petroleum-carnival smell on your clothes?” -Baton Rouge. New Orleans may be the best city in Louisiana, but we're still the state capital!

It's funny, because for anyone who has been to Baton Rouge

you know how accurate that is. I've been to every town/city that has an SEC school in it and BR is clearly the worst and it's not even close. We make fun of Cootlumbia a lot, but BR makes coot town look like paradise.

"IDIOT POSTER OF THE MONTH SO FAR...GWP-- You have won IPM Award for your failure to completely comprehend a clear post & then choose to attack someone who points out your ignorance. While you are not yet in the same No Class Catagory as deRoberts, ClemTiger117 & Tigerdug23, you are getting closer to the Sewer Dwellers." - coachmac
