LSU fan visitor questions

I'm making my first trip to the original Death Valley. This trip was planned 7 years ago when this game was first announced. At the end of 2015 my wife and I moved to Charlotte from Baton Rouge to experience a new place together. In doing so, I met a guy (Brad Kelly) through work and became friends almost instantaneously. We both shared a passion for college football and specifically our own respective Tigers. His wife and family as well as my own coordinated yearly football trip visits at each others home every year. We would watch football, bbq, and drink at each others homes. It was always a great time. We didnt go to each others stadium though because we both agreed that the first time we go into the others stadium, it should be when our teams play each other. Tragically, my best friend was killed in a car accident in January. He lost his life less than a mile from his home after grabbing dinner for his family. Fast forward to now. His wife has gifted myself and my buddy's dad tickets to the game. I'll be driving in and getting to campus around noon (cant miss Ohio St. and Texas). My question is, how close to the stadium can i park for free at around noon for this game. Im assuming not close but any suggestions are appreciated. Ive been a big clemson fan for the last 9 years. If we werent playing each other if be wearing the Clemson shirt be bought me 8 years ago. Thanks for the tips, and Go Tigers!

Sorry for your loss. You will not get anywhere close to the stadium or campus without a parking pass. With all the good football going on, fans will be getting there early so you may want to arrive around 10 or 11. Go to the tickets section of tigernet and go to parking passes. Plenty for sale but definitely not cheap. Enjoy our beautiful campus and enjoy the game.

Hello Tigernet! Have not been here in awhile, 2009 to be exact when we came in for game with first half of my username! Our son is a former TCU player and as such we made every game home and away for 4 years. I will say Clemson fans back then treated us oh so well! Now, in town for the "Tiger" side of my username and coming from Greenville. Good news is we still love college football, bad news is now we are pushing 70 so "close" is better, what do you locals recommend that is currently for sale on your board? TIA.
BTW, back in the day someone from this forum came over to the TCU Killerfrogs forum and offered up his tailgate for those so inclined. I can not remember where we parked at CU but he found us and brought us to his tailgate. I wish I remembered his name but do not, I still post as NewFrogFan on KFC, now 25 years after my first post. Maybe he sees this post, most hospitable opposing team fan I ever met, and there have been a bunch. No smack from me, I'm not from USC to hopefully good to geaux. Bringing a fellow LSU AFROTC classmate with me that just so happens to also be a German Cajun from Breaux Bridge.
To the site mods, can't believe my account was still here after all these years of no activity. Thanks for any "visitor" info anyone cares to share.

I hope you have a great experience in Tigertown. First thing that you should know is that the parking on Gameday absolutely sucks. My suggestion is to park for $40.00 at the first place you see. I would also recommend that you get to campus closer to 10:00. The longer you wait, the further away you will be. If you drive downtown on College Ave there will be people standing out with signs for parking. You can do some window shopping while you’re downtown and grab a bite and a beer. Make sure you walk around campus, because you may never get back. Clemson is one of the most safe campuses in the country, so you don’t have to worry about getting in a bad area. Enjoy your day in Clemson, and be sure to stop at a few tailgates while you’re walking around. The people are almost always friendly and welcoming to visitors.

sorry to hear that brother.
Hope you have a great time but you will need a parking pass. Tailgating in Clemson is big business and you should treat it as such. Spend a few extra hundred bucks and get a spot and enjoy the day. Clemson folks will treat you with respect and you will find out quickly that it was worth the wait.

For "free' parking you will be over a mile away.

There are many houses and parking lots that charge for parking, with the closest to the stadium being $50-60 or more. You can pay $20 but it is still a pretty long walk. Otherwise you need to find a parking pass for an assigned lot. I'm cheap and will walk a pretty long distance, figuring it is good exercise and a way to gain an edge on traffic after the game, but would not recommend it for your first game in Death Valley. Sorry to hear about your buddy. That will definitely pull at your heart.

Welcome to the real Death Valley. Sorry about your friend but at the is point, he is part of that “something in them hills” and you I believe you may even be able feel his presence. My best suggestion for parking would be to start at St Andrews Catholic Church downtown at about 10 AM. If they don’t have spots then drive around the neighborhood just west of the church - N Clemson Ave, Folger St, Strawberry LN. There are usually people selling spots in their yards. It should cost you around $50 but people tend to get greedy at big games so be prepared for possibly more. Stop by the Esso Club as you walk toward the stadium. Stop and strike up a conversation with people tailgating and most will invite you in for a drink and/or food. Enjoy your time there. It is a great atmosphere.

I grew up here, have NEVER paid for parking. (and also rarely if ever pay face value for a ticket). I just make the good long walk from various outposts. I don't mind walking a mile with a backpack. Really. It's good exercise. The better thing for you is with whom or where do you TG? But here you go - pull up a map of Clemson and let's do this together. Coming in at 12 on a night game, you should have no problem with spread out traffic and arrivals all day:
Approach on Highway 76 coming in from Anderson and I-85. That's your main road coming in to Clemson from the Anderson / I-85 side. As you come in closer to Clemson, about two or three miles out, big left at Old Stone Church Rd (nice old historic cemetery there also).
Proceed through a big 3-way stop sign and it turns into Cherry Rd. Move in a little closer to Perimeter Rd (main road that accesses stadium) and look for parking on the roadside along the way, or - take a left on Old Stadium Rd, and look for roadside parking there. Your walk from there isn't actually bad - maybe a mile, but will you really feel it that much since you see that side of campus, walk by a golf course, and begin to see a lot of TG's sprawled everywhere. This left turn on Old Stadium is also the way to the Clemson Visitors Center and Madren Center, where you can get a good park and go in and maybe get more information, if needed.
Now I have occasionally been eclipsed by weird progress and new restrictions, so in the event Old Stadium is roped off - which I doubt - then go on to the visitor Center and figure things out from there. you've got plenty of time!

Thank you for this very informative reply. As of right now I dont know who I will tailgate with. Knowing LSU fans, if I find purple and gold and come with beer, I'll have a place to kick it before the game.

silva... he may be able to get a parking space just past the Walker driving range (now under renovation), by taking the first left after the entrance to the Madren Center/Walker Course after passing the range. The road is a construction road being used to haul in dirt for the Walker renovations and maybe it will not be closed off.

I think NewSpring Church (13200 Clemson Blvd, Seneca, SC) offers free parking and a shuttle. Not a horrible option but I'd assume it fills up pretty fast.
Otherwise, you can park way out on the road by Walker golf course. But it's a HIKE to the stadium from there. It's also first-come, first-served, so you gotta get there early.
The city-owned Keith Street and Fendley Street garages offer all-day rates for all home games. Not sure about price but it's probably pretty reasonable compared to other extortionary pay-to-park options.
Man, what a story you tell, but I can tell you're squared away by the way you tell it. I'm sorry about your friend.
I hope you enjoy your visit to Clemson and welcome! Go Tigers!

I would spring for decent parking, especially if the guy’s dad is older and can’t walk very far. Consider the walk back after the game is gonna be in the dark. If he’s fit and can walk then the other poster who suggested area with the coordinates does have sidewalks most of the way. Sorry for the loss of your buddy:
