Low attendance at basketball-part 2

1

Do some of y’all really think students can’t get tickets to basketball and it’s somehow the ath dept’s fault for not figuring out a way to get unused tickets to them? We are a football school with twice as many students as 10 years ago and they don’t fill the student section.
There hasn’t been 1 game where they run out of student basketball tickets. The one game with heavy demand was the Duke game with a line wrapped around LJ, but they all were given tickets with some as SRO. One game- Duke. None of the rest remotely resembled a sell out for students.

If true, then that is a shame, but we have parents on here who’s kids who are students are telling them they can’t get tickets to the games. So someone is not telling the truth here. So which is it?

Now I hear you on the football attendance. That seems to be due to kids wanting to go have fun on a beautiful Saturday on the weekend than put up with the crowds at the games just to watch Clemson vs SC state or Duke. Or if it is an uninteresting gane and the weather sux.

But BB games are a lot less crowded and on weeknights a lot of times. It could be a huge student-fest atmosphere! Very few outsiders.

I think the dynamic for the BB games is very conducive to more students attending than less - IF they can get the tickets. And yes, give them free pizza and soft drinks too!

A time tested theory here is that students will gain entry

Jan 26, 2023, 11:33 AM

to whatever they want to gain entry into. Money doesn't seem to be much of an object for many students nowadays, what with Teslas, BMWs, and other $30k vehicles blanketing campus these days (along with outrageous tuition and housing expenses).

Students don't want to go, because we traditionally have svcked at hoops. My guess is that they are skeptical about this team and rightfully so.

If they wanted tickets but "couldn't" get them through the student ticket vehicle, they'd simply buy them elsewhere. Trust me.

This is simply not true. The student section has been filled for every game since school came back. The problem is the school doesn’t allot enough seats for students. They only let in about 1000 a game so your left with a packed student section and everywhere else empty

Dude how old are you? The student section doesn't also wrap the entire upper section. They only let students sit directly above the baseline student section, and for the duke game they actually gave out less student tickets in order to sell more to the public. Not every student was allowed in.
