Loved that stat about redzone trips, did you see it?

WE are 2nd in the nation (2ND !!!) in trips to the Red Zone but we are 121st in the nation at scoring in the redzone... That is called Panic. Our personnel and our coaches tighten up when we get to a position to score. WE're changing our mindset when its critical for some reason. Alot of that is QB but alot of it has to be coaching too. I'm not a huge fan of feeling like we have to run off tackle for 1st and 2nd downs every time we get close. I think we (and the team) knows we're probably not gonna score on a run play bc we have no Etienne who can make up for poor OL blocking. So we get stuffed or we fumble. They've kinda missed their moment to change b/c we have 4 losses but we've gotta let Riley get creative and get us some TDs. What happened to the window dressing, the play action, the moxy we had at one point.

I think Cade is panicky b/c he has no confidence in his teammates to make a play so he tries to do too much.. its part and parcel of poor playcalling at the goalline and poor preparation.

But us having single digits at halftime against NCSU is just a microcosm of our team this year.

That’s the part people leave out in ######## on the team. We literally should be one of the top scoring offenses in the country but have shot ourselves in the foot over and over again. That’s where Dabo gets the we’ve been in every game line because it’s the truth. 100% falls on coaching, if we don’t see a major shake up on the staff in the offseason then it’s time to lose it.

Riley made a great call on 3rd and goal Saturday.

Combo routes that got Randall in one on one coverage. The DB was lost.

Result: Cade threw the ball terribly short and hit the DB in the chest. Randall did his best to jump over the DB and was almost able to get his hands on the ball.

That play had nothing to do with any player not being coached well enough.

The blocking was good, the routes were good, the effort was good, but the throw was bad for whatever reason.

Re: Loved that stat about redzone trips, did you see it? .. Riley does make...

some good calls where it is clear that cabe does not see what is going on , does not look to see what is going on, or just doesnt know the play. Wide open receivers running everywhere....frustrating...

Well, it certainly is not a stat you should love if you are Clemson fan

it is a terrible stat.

Being 2nd sounds really nice, you gotta score. Being this bad at red zone makes is near meaningless to get into the redzone. Redzone problems are scheme problems, blocking problems, confidence problems.

Yes, Cade has happy feet and unless he is set or throwing a designed roll-out, he struggles mightily.

And in redzone, no creativity to offense.

Gotta keep working, all you can do is try to get better. It has been 8 weeks of struggle, nothing the coaches/team is doing seems to work so keep beating down that brick wall

Yes, and that's largely a function of a weak OL that cannot run the ball or pass protect. We used to run over folks. Not now.

We "never" ran over folks. Our Oline has been getting put on it's @ ss for the last decade. Caldwell was OLINE coach for 10 years and effectively put SIX players into the NFL. Fans disgruntlement ran him off, he was replaced by one of his former players...and here we are.

Thats definitely a big factor

in lack of success in the red zone. Less field to protect means you need more push from the OL, and they get none.

Search YouTube for Travis Etienne Clemson highlights. After about a minute you should easily determine that we don’t have anything close to him. Our defense is good but would be great if we quit giving up 70-80 yd home runs. Everything on offense is mediocre. You can only coach up so much. Watching those ETN highlights, it shows how scaled down our playbook is.

we've got better recievers this year than the past 2 years

its just a matter of drawing up plays that use them well. I would play action or sprint CAde out wide on at least one of those plays and have some back side crossers or sit down routes with a (shaky option) of a shuffle underneath (but i have feeling that would be another fumble.) Brown can catch, stellato can catch a sit down or rub route, Collins or Briningstool are available for a fade or a stop route. Or Cade can make a move to score. But i guess they don't trust him to make the right read and throw. At least there are options adn you're attempting to use your pieces.

But running up the middle is a for sure dead play for our line. And you can't do it multiple times. They just stack the line b/c they know we don't try to scramble and throw in those situations. You gotta be versatile.

Other teams are scoring outside the RZ, we have no big play ability which

leaves us with higher # of play drives that have a higher probability of stalling out. As the field shrinks, harder to move the ball especially with average talent, no playmakers.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You are correct.

This is the main reason we have the seemingly bizarre stat of us being #2 in the country for getting in the red zone. Most good offenses score a chunk of their points before they even reach the red zone.

Thats wild that we are 2nd in getting to the Red Zone. I wouldn't have thought that.
