Remember thinking Rittman was such

A great coach. This team looks like an intramural softball team. Or church league. I think we were fortunate to start a team with Cagle who happened to be a generational talent.

I believe he may be a good builder of a program but does not look to be one that knows how to maintain. I have held that thought of other coaches from different sports over the years. It’s like it takes 2 different philosophies. Cagle may have masked some deeper issues the last few years.

The team just never seemed to gel or play to their potential last year.
It was way different than the previous two years where I would argue they played over their heads and were fun to watch

Cagle, Clark, etc masked some serious coaching deficiencies until they fell apart last year. Dont see many P4 wins on this team in 2025. Got to have pitching and play defense in softball and this team has neither.

and fielding fundamentals are atrocious. Even team spirit looks dismal and it results in poor hustle. I hope he can right this ship but we’re taking on water fast.

I think it is way too early to give up on Rittman or this team. At present, I think we have accept that this team is going to be average, at best, and just hope for improvement. I am convinced that a lot of young regional players want to play for Clemson and that we will get back on track in the next couple of years. This is probably going to sound bad, but there are a lot of dymanics that go on on women's teams, especially softball for some reason, and winning, I think covers a lot of it up. When things are not going good they start to amplify. Maybe I am wrong, but I am going to be a little more patient ...... and nobdy hates losing any more than me.

^^^ gets it ^^^ I may have TD your post by mistake. Sorry. I'm getting bad with the shakes, so please accept the apology.
I know I've been harsh on Rittman. I also refrain (try to) on saying too much publicly. I've posted he got fired from Stanford and I appreciate your correcting me on that. Thanks for posting what truly happened. I'm afraid the same has happened here.
That aside, I look at a program like Duke that started with us. I don't see those same problems. But as I stated last year, I think Rittman was the right person at the right time to get our program up and running. I'm not for firing him... it'd be a Leggett thing imo. But it wouldn't hurt my feelings if he was moved to an admin position and get a new coach that is hungry about recruiting and can manage a clubhouse full of ladies.
I'm really hoping crash can make a difference. I'll also say that I agree with what coach Bakich once said, we need more diversity on our team. Yes, there's a ton of pent up demand of talent in the area. All one has to do is look at the sec. But, just like baseball, scholarships are messed up in softball too... and Clemson isn't the easiest school to get into.
I'm rambling and said too much. But my disappointment with Rittman has nothing to do with Dubs and Ls. Those will vary. I'll continue to pull for this team, we have some talented players. We had some the last 6 years but a lot of them didn't develop much if at all. Anyway, I'll just leave it at that. It's not all bad, lots of good, but it could, and jmho, should have been better and could be better.

Rowing, tennis, softball, gymnastics, volleyball, basketball, golf they stink in all of them year after year. Lacrosse gets a pass because the recruiting is on a high level but again…

gymnastics came in second in the acc last year in its first year of inception. Ladies tennis is pretty good this year and womens basketball has improved greatly and is trending upwards. We need fans to show up for womens sports, especially ladies basketball.

I’m also worried about the Men’s golf team as well. Huge strides in the wrong direction the last couple of seasons.
I cannot speak to women’s golf because honestly have not been as invested as I should be. I love anything Clemson but it’s like some rarely get a lot of love and I just have not taken the time to research where they are currently.

Like with every sport recruiting matters. He struck Gold with his first couple classes and transfers. It’s been downhill ever since. He’s going to have to do better recruiting if we are to get back to that

It has everything to do with starting out with some good players who turned out to be very good, and nothing to do with coaching. We have little history yet and expectations of good teams are premature.

Rittman may not be the right type of coach for moving forward (I have no idea) but should we have expected a dip? He had to recruit an entire team in two years (the first year signees took a RS). This means all ran out of eligibility within two years so the team had to be rebuilt from the ground up. He has taken a few from the portal to level things out he basically had to start over. We were certainly spooned by success for a new program but it sure was fun

Too early to give up on this team but we just don’t have dominate pitching. Going forward, if you don’t think NIL is going to be a problem in softball, you are sadly mistaken. It’s all relative, but portal players want NIL money and HS recruits going to the SEC are getting signing bonuses.

Rittman should revaluate his assistants. Rittman wasn't pushing the envelope at sending the runner 3rd all game and then he was gone. No way you make the 2nd out at home and 3rd out at third base on the same play. The 3rd base coach subbing for Rittman was mentally video recording the action instead of into the game. Hold the runner at 3rd and worst case there's a runner on 2nd and 3rd with one out, not running back on the field deflated to play defense.
IMO, that's a reflection of the coaching they're getting in the off season and at practice.
