Losing Dabo is only part of problem

All this speculation about replacing Dabo seems to occupy everyone’s mind if he were to go. Frankly, I have no idea who I would pick and hope we don’t get to that point.

But my fear is the current state of college football really hurts the chances of any continuity. When Hatfield replaced Danny, he inherited the team pretty much intact.

The recruiting class fell apart but the team stayed. With the rules now, the vultures would come in and pick our bones clean. Plus the guys who signed in December would asked to be let out their LOIs.

Also, one has to think the uncertainty regarding the ACC and Clemson’s place in realignment impacts which coaches would want to come. Thankfully the 12 team playoff will make it easier to get to the dance, but the writing is on the wall and the ACC/Clemson will get left behind by the time the GOR is over.

Not sure how many of the coaches Clemson would have at the top of their list would be willing to jump into a situation where you’re in an inferior conference making $50mil less a year than your competition.

If Dabo did leave, and I don't think he will,

I would think we'd have a tougher time than some think at getting a coach. First, we've been on a little downward trajectory over the last couple of years. While I think Dabo can correct that, I think some might believe it great run was lightning in a bottle helped by 2 generational QB's. Second, don't think we have the NIL money to compete with UGA, Alabama, Texas, Ohio St........ And last but not least, we're in a pathetic conference that's hanging on by a thread that's being sued by one of it's own members trying to get out.

I certainly dont think we could lure a big name coach. We would have

To take a risk with an up-and-coming like Dabo was because I don’t think any big name coach is going to come to a conference that may dissolve in the next few years to program that has slipped from elite to good

Because, no matter what happens, ACC refs will still be the worst in all of sports.
