Looks like I'll be coming up for Louisville game.

Oct 17, 2022, 4:03 PM

11/12. Military appreciation day. Hoping it is a night game (ACCN). May stay in Hartwell, still not sure. May depend on game time.

We're coming up for the game, but also the ambiance and atmosphere. Regardless of game time we'll probably show up in town by 9:00 AM (maybe noon if it is a night game). I want to see how much I can remember about the campus, plus try to find the apartment my wife and I stayed in for the six weeks I was in class. We'll spend time walking around campus and just soaking in the atmosphere. Would love to meet as many of y'all as possible.

Still not sure about tickets. I don't have an account with Ticketmaster or any other web-based ticket outlet. Don't want to take a chance on getting scammed so I'll probably just use the Clemson account. Anybody ever used the ESPN link to the secondary market?

Any suggestions (I've gotten a few) about anything (tickets, parking, tailgating areas to wander through, etc.) will be greatly appreciated. I'll have my ID showing I'm a veteran, if that makes a difference. You can just T-mail me if you prefer.

Thanks, and looking forward to 11/12.

Great news Bret. I rarely miss
Military Appreciation games because Clemson does an amazing job for the Veterans. The call for Vets to come down to the field at halftime is an experience I'll never forget, so if they do it this time take advantage of it you won't regret it. From one vet to another thank you for your service.

Nah, I mentioned it a week or two ago.

I made the original post right after the NCSU game. Said I wanted to see the pregame ceremony from inside the stadium, not just on TV.

I hope you have a DD.

So glad you’ll be in Clemson again.

Thank you for your service!

will be readily accpeted.

But, neither of us partake of anything that might require a DD.

If you haven’t been to the Esso Club you should definitely stop by there. Maybe a good place to set up a meeting spot for all us TNetters to catch up with you prior to the game.

My guess is the apartment you were in may be gone or redone. I know the apartment my wife and I lived in right behind Esso Club in 1984 is gone. The area has changed a lot since then.

I recommend getting into the stadium before the Victory Walk which is about 40 minutes prior to kickoff. After the Victory Walk there is time to go to the bathroom or concession stand and be back to your seat before the real festivities start.

I look forward to trying to meet up with you. Really enjoy your input on the board here.

Go Tigers!!

LOL, I've been out of Clemson so long, I can't even remember

Oct 17, 2022, 5:49 PM

the name of the apartment complex, OR where it was, that my two fellow struggling future Chem E's and I stayed for that last summer session in 1976. With all the growth around Clemson, it is most certainly gone and replaced by now. A "Keowee Village" maybe, that ring any bells with anyone?

I'm afraid that you won't recognize anything. Hubs and I lived in the prefab closest to the library. Not only is that building gone but the Street no longer exists. We can't even figure out where it was, maybe the Brooks Center is there?!!?
But you'll still enjoy the wonderful atmosphere in the stadium!

Yes, Keowee Village was a place! Lived there my last year -88-89. No idea if it’s still there.

I tried to find the apartment on Google Earth.

Oct 17, 2022, 9:43 PM [ in reply to Re: Looks like I'll be coming up for Louisville game. ]

No luck. All I remember was it was east of the campus and just east of a main highway running through town. There was a railroad beside the highway and our apartment was right by the railroad. I couldn't even find the railroad on the satellite photo. I remember the small hill that the RR was on was filled with groundhogs.

I just did some more searching. It apparently was north of campus. I found the Railroad. My best guess is we stayed at Riverbank Apartments. But, that was 30 years ago, so I'm just guessing.

I was just going to say Riverbank Commons when you mentioned the apartments beside the railroad tracks. I lived there for 3 years from 1984-1987 after living in Johnstone my 1st two years. I loved living there. I guess it’s still there. My daughter’s friend lived there until she graduated in 2014. I couldn’t believe it was still there at that time. It was pretty new when I lived there in the 80’s.
