I think he is referring to Wes Goodwin=DC. The college football landscape changed after 2020. A perfect storm hit Clemson with NIL, transfer portal, coaching staff changes, COVID eligibility year, etc. The NCAA lost in court and now you have a wild west style approach to college sports. Play for pay, drugs, hookers, cars/trucks are all fair game now! You want a player or coach, get your money in! TAMU has to pay $77million for the old coach. The NFL has revenue streams, rules and player contracts. The current college structure is unsustainable for most schools.

You might not like the hire for DC in Goodwin

but the guy has put out 2 top 10 defenses but I can see some of your thinking in that the D lost to SC & TN last year among others..
and 4 losses this year..but most of those losses were on the O.
Yep, the D was off a bit in the Duke game for sure, as was the O totally, and maybe ole Greenbean’s D might have been some better especially with blitz packages but seems Goodwin has used that weapon more recently in defeating ND & UNC.
Year 3 will be interesting.

Not a popular opinion what I'm about to write.
I agree with 90% of what the writer stated. But imo, even a ga tech stomping won't change the problems.... and like writer says, it would in most fans perception. I see it differently. Scar is a bad depleted team that even a maligned team like Texas am or Tennessee can blow them up... I don't want to settle with being a Tennessee or atm.
ND is a good team. Not a great team but it took us a 2018 level defense to beat them. Uncheat isn't a top 20 team. And it took some fortunate calls and ill timed turnovers to barely beat them. So, who else did we beat, weak florist, ga tech, cuse? Seriously... and a bottom sec team.
So even a blowout win over coots, our problems exist. No team will have a 2018 defense every year??? Jmho.

Need to recruit better. Need some wideouts. I’m not disappointed in the defense whatsoever. With our TO’s the offense has left them in some bad spots over the year.

If the Gamecocks won, chicken fans wouldn't be donating their garb to Goodwill. Not to worry though, there will be plenty of giving when we beat them.

It is hard to imagine that Carolina can win this game. I know that anything is possible, but Carolina has lost big against most of the good teams that they have played. Tennessee, Missouri,Texas A&M,and second half against Georgia. Clemson has defeated some good teams in Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, and North Carolina. Carolina cannot defeat any of those teams. Just play inspired football and Clemson should prevail.
