Up there with Dolly, and my pop. What he's doing for skilled trade and undermining the premise you need a four-year degree to be successful, is a grand contribution to our society.
Last week in Las Vegas at The SEMA Show, I finally got a look at the truck I’ve been teasing here for the last month. As promised, I’m sharing some pictures, in a shameless effort to whip the automotive world into a frenzy over the unveiling of a true, one-of-a-kind work truck fabricated from scratch by the wizards at Sugar Creek.
This beautiful beast is the product of 11,000-man hours and represents the very best example of what a handful of highly skilled tradesmen with a relentless work ethic can create inside a world-class garage. The truck will be auctioned off early next year at the legendary Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale. Every penny raised will go directly to the mikeroweWORKS Foundation, and I’m hoping to see a LOT of pennies. Even if you’re not a gearhead, I’d be grateful if you’d share this. The more people who know about this action the better, and chances of raising a lot of pennies is actually very good. It’s already generating some great press, and this article will give you all the details. https://moparinsiders.com/custom-1962-dodge-power-wagon-to-benefit-skilled-trades/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR0o8C1AS4EGBAL7b1MT0Cx_Uwcvlr4tuU6qb0CmCHHzOOIkbgTL0e4ueAs_aem_DXZNBp_uOR9DMMPVom8ouQ
Again, I’m grateful to the people who made this happen, and humbled by their enthusiasm for mikeroweWORKS. I’m specifically indebted to the guys at SugarCreek who spent the last 9 months building this truck. What a pleasure to meet them in Ohio this summer and watch them work. They’re not just mechanics or technicians. They’re craftsmen, and their work is extraordinary.
I also want to thank Colby Donaldson for designing the truck, and John Richardson at Sugar Creek, whose incredible generosity made the entire project possible. And speaking of generosity, a very big thanks to Craig Jackson and his wife, Carolyn. Over the years, Barrett-Jackson auctions have raised over $153 million for dozens of worthwhile charities. That’s rather incredible, and the fact that Craig selected mikeroweWORKS as a foundation worthy of his efforts is a very big deal. I’m so appreciative of his support.
I’ll be talking more about this in the new year, and doing what I can to make sure every truck enthusiast in the country knows about the upcoming auction. Thanks for helping me spread the word.

His personal history is very interesting - starting out on QVC and 'inventing' the QVC standard of shoppers calling in to the show.

Whoever buys that truck will probably never ever use it the way it was intended
But the money is definitely going to a great cause
Since the incoming cabinet is getting filled with celebrity picks, be nice if Mike Rowe was Sec of Labor or even Education

Yeah I like him too and find myself agreeing with him on just about everything. His life is pretty fascinating too. He’s a true renaissance man in the same vein as Bourdain.
Oddly, I’ve tried really hard to get into his podcast and I just can’t. He is a fantastic guest on other podcasts, but as a host, it’s almost tedious unless he has a really dynamic guest. Part of the problem I think is his co-host. The guy just isn’t good, and because he knows Rowe so well, half his comments end up being some inside joke that no one gets.

Somewhat of a modern-day FBCoachSC®, if you will...a man with the ability to do a multitude of things such as residential construction using alternative materials, maintaining a septic system, defying the laws of physics with his unique contributions to America's electrical grid, helping revamp the American educational system, and every aspect of dealing with vehicles from creative financing to cost-cutting maintenance measures.
We have our own home-grown Renaissance man, and we should celebrate him as much as we do Mike Rowe.

He obliged and sent her a personalized note/photo which she gave to me at my retirement ceremony. To this day it is still one one of my favorite retirement gifts...
