Morris thinks Boyd has first round talent

Offensive coordinator Chad Morris thinks that quarterback Tajh Boyd can be a first round NFL draft choice; he just isn't sure that is what would happen if Boyd were to leave a year early. Full Story »

Memo to Chad....

Dec 20, 2012, 5:12 PM

Great to have you back at CU for another year. Please don't give up on the run so fast like we did against SC. Jet sweeps, pressure release plays, screens, draws are a great idea against teams that crash the ends and rush so hard downhill. Also, it is ok to pass on 1st down and run on 2nd down. It's entirely within the rules to run on 2nd down if you ran on 1st down and didn't gain much. Just some quirks and play calling predictability I've seen lately. And to Tnet smarties who will question my authority...I am the ghost of Vince Lombardi, so yes it is ok for me to give CM advice in this area!

Well Mr. Ghost, why the H&ll weren't in Chad's ear at the coot game. Just like a Ghost, there're never around when you really need one. When you really need one. Their off some where scaring the H&ll out of little kids.

He really is for most NFL team's wish list, and that's sad, because TB is a great leader in many ways.

He is as capable as Russell Wilson

Dec 21, 2012, 3:05 PM

and is 3 inches taller!

I agree. I simply said that it seems that most NFL teams are looking for taller QB's, and it does help when the linemen are 6'4"-6'8". It is more difficult to receivers. I hope TB makes it huge in the NFL as a QB.

he is much better than Wilson; especially passing.. not quite as good runner

Charlie Whitehurst is a better QB

Dec 21, 2012, 11:07 AM

and he is a back up. Boyd will not do well if he goes this year. Charlie stayed four years and he was better prepared.

Last 6 yrs, 4 sub 6'-2" QBs were drafted. Tops was 3rd round

Dec 21, 2012, 1:59 PM

In last 6 years, ZERO sub-6'2" junior QBs have been drafted

There are a few rare sub-6'2" QBs that make it in the NFL, but (right or wrong) the NFL rarely DRAFTS them.

Over the last 6 years and 74 QBs drafted, only 4 QBs under 6’2" were drafted to play QB, and NONE of them were juniors. (Though 2 more senior QBs were drafted to play WR because they were too "short".) Those 4 QBs had outstanding careers:
* 6'1" Colt McCoy, the all-time-winningest college QB (3rd round).
* 6’ Heisman winner, Troy Smith (5th round).
* 6'1" Tyrod Taylor (6th round).
* 5’11” Russell Wilson (3rd round).

I could see Boyd going as a mid-late-round pick after his SENIOR season, if he has a great career. No way he goes in 1st or 2nd round.

Clemson listed Kyle Parker as 6'1" but he shrank to 6'0" when MLB measured him. I suspect Boyd's height may be similarly falsified.
