Little help from my Tiger brethren regarding fantasy....

Aug 16, 2012, 7:27 PM

So this year I have decided to participate in fantasy football with some buddies for the first time and I have some questions for you fantasy gurus.

Our draft is Monday night and since I am the new Guy, I get the 12th (final pick). The league is set up QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR, TE, K. With that set up, what do you guys feel the best draft order is taking into consideration I am picking last?

Points for help!

One of the most important things to consider is how your league is set up in regards to scoring points. Finding out how points are tallied will help you set your priorities for the draft.

For example, some leagues give points for each reception made by your WR's or RB's. Other leagues put a premium on passing stats for your QB.

Find out how your leagues point system is set up then draft accordingly.

from what my buddy was telling me, most pts are gained by qb's if that helps...haha

I've had as much success letting the computer picking for me as picking for myself. If your league allows, get a qb from some pass happy school like boise that plays against lower level opponents. My league is limited acc/ sec so you have to jump early to get a good qb which makes or breaks you.

You know you've raised a real tiger fan when you ask your son what he wants his cub scout pinewood derby car to be and he says a Tiger!

check your points.....most draft experts urge you to go for either two quality running backs with first picks or a combo of a highly regarded RB and a highly regarded WR.....QB's that are productive in numbers are also always available at pick 12....you should have the 12th pick.....and also the 13th pick....so you will go back to back on picks.....

urge you to do some mock drafting prior to your draft to get a feel for how picks will fall your way in that spot......

and just a hint....lots of folks consider Jimmy Graham ...the tight end for New Orleans to be equal to a highly rated WR..due to being in the offensive set he is with Drew Brees...

Gronkowski too, if not moreso

Aug 16, 2012, 11:08 PM

i've already seen him go in the 2nd round... crazy for a TE, but his numbers don't make that a bad pick. He's better than most WRs fantasy wize

Hold on the TE... Not worthy of a 1st or 2 nd Rd pick

Gronkowski, Graham, or Gates 3rd round or later.

There's no kind of flex position?

like RB/WR; OP; anything? unusual...

in the 1st round I highly suggest taking either the best QB or RB available. Probably RB since you have the 12th pick. The good thing about the 12th pick is you will have back to back pick. so scratch what I just said. take the best QB and RB back to back.

WRs are overrated. I promise you, they are a dime a dozen. Even though you have more WRs starting than any other position, QB and RB consistently get more points.

Also, do not take a kicker until the last, MAYBE next to last round. the difference between the #1 kicker and the #10 kicker is minimal.

And for the record, I have won a couple leagues over the last few years, and went like 13-0 before losing a game in a very competitive league last year.

The best fantasy advice i ever got was to make 3 tiers on your main positions and then rank them. From here you should look at the previous year and see the point differentials.

Quick example 12 players in my league. My Tier 1 qbs are GB QB, Patriot QB, Panthers QB, Saints QB, and Lions QB. RBs are Ray Rice, Leshon Mccoy, Arian Foster, MJD, Marshawn Lynch. WR Calvin Johnson, Greg Jennings, Wes Welker, Jordy Nelson, Larry Fitzgerald. In my league player importance ranks as follows RB, QB, WR.

SO if am number 12 and i go to draft then I'm checking My top 5 Rbs, top 4 QBs, and my Top 3 Recievers. Whatever the highest number still available is who i would take. If i had to Guess i end up taking a QB and WR here at pick 12 and 13 because my top 5 running backs would be gone. However if Marshawn Lynch was still on Board I would take him over say Drew Breeze. Or i would Take Drew Breeze over Say Wes Welker. Takes some time to break down the draft order in Excel but i find it to be highly highly effective.

If it matters i finished 3rd in my league last year and was over all points leader. Injuries and playoffs got me at the end but got a 70 dollars for third place and 110 dollars for overall high points. 1st place was 280 2nd was 140.

there seems to be some confusion...

Ive been playing for abt 5 yrs... Here's what you want:

Aug 17, 2012, 12:25 AM

Your draft pick really should depend on best avaiable, not strictly position. Only take a QB if A Rodgers, Brady, Stafford, Newton or Brees are somehow left ( running & passing TDs count, hence the only way Newton is included). They all scored more than other QB's last year. These are your 1st tier QBs from last year. If no 1st tier QBs are left go RB, you want Arian Foster, Ray Rice, LeShaun, Chris Johnson, or Jones Drew. WRs you want Megatron-Calvin Johnson, Roddy White, or Fitzgerald.

You should have back to back picks (12th in the 1st then lead off in the 2nd in reverse order). The 1st two rounds are very important if you want to make some noise in your league.

Just my two cents.
