The nickname tigers came from a group of workers used for dangerous jobs because slaveowners did not want to risk their slaves / property.
The confederate soldiers group was named after them for their voracity.

They removed confederate monuments a few weeks ago in New Orleans. I suppose this is the next step. There will be another step after this.
