night SOLELY because of a dumb play by VT on the basepaths. They were teeing off on our pitchers in the 9th like a prime Tiger Woods on a golf ball. You can argue that the DP would have been completed had the runner gotten out of the way, but I don't think so. The play wasn't close at first as it was, it would have been iffy if a better throw would have beaten the runner. The real good chance for the DP was lost when Bertram was initially indecisive on the play, and then took so much time getting to the bag to make the throw to first.
Had there been no interference, and the runner was safe at first, the game is tied. With all the momentum in the world on VT's side after the big comeback, I very much doubt we would have won it in extras, even if we somehow got that last out in the 9th before a walkoff.
Butt, you can play the If/but game all night long. It happened the way it happened, and as I said, we were REALLY fortunate that it did. We'll take it, and hope the horseshoe doesn't fall out today. GO, TIGERS!

You are 100% correct. If the VT base runner slides into second, the game is tied. What we’ll never know is how it would’ve ended after that. Sure felt like VT would’ve walked it off on the very next pitch based on how the rest of that half inning had unfolded. Good news is we will never know and it doesn’t matter !

They would’ve had a man on first with two outs. The put out at second was a critical play. That swings momentum back to the pitcher. Back to the defense.
Granted, we lost momentum. Clearly our guys relaxed when they got a five run lead in the top of the ninth. They thought they had the game won. The coaches will resolve that for sure!

Had it ended tied, I think the Tigers win in extras. Their pitching was similar to our ninth, we all were squaring up on the ball. Even the last out was a shot caught by 2nd baseman. Their relievers were having no success with our batters. Had we gotten the last out and ended the inning tied, my bet is on Clemson winning in 10.

I was listening to radio so I was unable to see it of course and have no idea what could of, should of happened but did see we won 9-8.

The correct call was made by the umpire. That was definitely player interference by the base runner. It would have been a great injustice if the play was not overturned. With that said, the bullpen needs to get a lot better. The ninth inning was embarrassing!
Good teams refuse to lose. Clemson was a good team last night. Keep it going.

Scoring 5 runs was amazing. It was a good bit of playing/coaching
Giving up 6 runs was unimaginable. If not for a technicality, we quite possibly would have lost.

Yeah it kind of felt like we came into the bottom of the 9th thinking VT was going to lay down after going down 9-4 and lost our focus for a minute.
This is always the fear when a team goes on a huge winning tear... stuff like this.
Hopefully it was a wake up call to not let any team have even a moment to catch their breath.

DJ never should’ve been quarterback in that game. Even with him behind center if he simply hands the ball off we win easily. Letting DJ throw it all over the field when South Carolina came into that game with nearly the worst run defense in all of college football is beyond me. That was criminally stupid. DJ was a complete bust. And that game was his worst game ever at Clemson. He should’ve been benched early. Or again we should’ve been running the ball. And of course our coaches had the cute little trick play that blew up in our face like it often does when it’s completely unnecessary.

Comment about Tiger Woods so BS, why not compare it to Nicklaus or John Daily, both longer than Tiger in their primes and without the Trampoline Drivers. Just like the media, always using Woods as the standard. Put a persimmon driver, dynamic gold steel shafts in his hands with Balato balls and he's just another 270-280 yard hitter. Why not compare a baseball player to say Mickey Mantle?

If not for the dumb play there's a good chance VT wins the game.
The biggest thing is those type of loses can send a team into a downhill spiral. Clemson caught a break, good teams take advantage of good breaks.
