Deon Cain Worries

Anyone else worried about Cain? After seeing Martavis Bryant getting suspended for a year even though he claimed he was clean and he stopped smoking, he still got suspended. I really hope it's not the same with Cain, and he's not all talk. If we have him, Williams, and Scott in the slot with exceptional backups, then we have the best WR group in Clemson history.

Agreed, but if something were to happen with Cain then I'd be just as comfortable with Hunter Renfrow in that spot. That kid is a baller that puts everything he has on the line

2012 WRs will likely never be topped. All 6 in 2 deep are in the NfL once Charone makes a team.
Sammy-Humphries Nuk- martavis Jaron Brown- Charone
Though i like the sound of ( no formal order)
Williams-Trevion Cain-renfrow Artavis-Ray Ray

Right now I am totally disgusted with Cain. He probably cost us the NC, so that's going to be on him for the rest of his life, and he can live with that. Anyone with that much talent, only to squander it, is headed down a long road to misery. Mike Bellamy says hello. And I called Bryant the steal of the draft until he squandered it. Now he's just another player IMO. Not much of a steal after all. I guess Dabo and the world are more tolerant of their rebellious attitude than I will ever be.
To me, Renfro is the real deal and deserves his continued success. I'm thankful for young men like him that can represent our fine university.

You mean Cain should have stopped the KO return for TD....AND covered the onside kick?
Cain's replacement, Mr. Renfrow, caught 2 TD passes.... and Cain cost us what?
Way, way unfair.

More tolerant of their rebellious attitude than you are? You realize that if we took a snapshot of our team, and how many of them smoke/have smoked pot, it'd probably be 50%+, including many "high character" individuals you think well of. As far as we know, this is the first time Cain has been in trouble for smoking, and he's 18 years old.
People make mistakes...the problem is when they repeatedly make the same mistake, which is why I feel differently about the Martavis situation.
Hopefully two things happen:
1. Martavis & Deon gets their priorities in order 2. The NFL & NCAA realize they have no business testing for a drug which doesn't affect performance in sports.

Is it illegal? I live in Denver and the local Colorado government has decided that it's not a dangerous enough drug to be prohibited from the adult public. Washington, Washington DC, Oregon, and Alaska have decided the same, and it sounds like up to a dozen other states may decide the same as well this election season.
That's what's sort of funny--this recreational drug is legal in some states, so shouldn't NFL players be able to say "I went to Denver/Seattle", and that should be good enough reasoning since the local governments have deemed marijuana to be the equal of alcohol (which is allowed under NFL laws)?

Also, why should it be the business of the NFL to test for a recreational drug which doesn't affect the equality of competition? What do they possibly have to gain by testing for it?

There are some things to worry about...
Mar 14, 2016, 8:55 AM
|
|
...but there's no sense worrying about Deon.
Either he comes around, as Dwayne Allen and Sammy Watkins did, and his immense talent is properly honed, leading to a lucrative professional career.
Or he doesn't, as others didn't, and his immense talent is never realized ... and another young man steps up, leading to a lucrative professional career.
I hope he chooses the former, as I wish for the best in all the young men who come to Clemson. You can cajole and encourage, but ultimately this will be Deon's decision.

No disrespect to either of those guys but...

if they want to ruin their careers it's up to them. It's becoming evident that if one doesn't act right he won't make it at Clemson. That's what attracts the good guys and eventually, if they want to smoke pot they won't sign up with us. That suits me.
All that being said, I still believe that Cain will be OK.

Also, to expand a little, it's interesting that many people are making the "OMG, he got caught smoking pot?! He's gonna be the next Martavis Bryant!" but almost none are saying "He's young, he made a mistake, Sammy did the same exact thing and turned out fine."

Absolutely. I guess it's human nature to harp on the negative, but while we've had plenty of guys get in trouble, we've had plenty of others turn it around. Everything I've heard is that Cain is a fantastic guy, who just needs to get his priorities in order.

I spend a lot of time worrying about young Deon and how
Mar 14, 2016, 6:25 PM
|
|
He is going to have to live with the fact that he is going to break so many ankles this year that corners are going to fake injuries before our game. We lost the Championship bc Mack went down and our defense did not know what to do without him on the field after he had been there for 2 years on just about every important snap. Unless Deon could switch over to a shutdown Corner just like that we were most likely going to lose that game.

I wish Cain the best. I can't wait to see him on the field again. I believe he is going to do all that is required to get back on that field. He is young, but I think Dabo and our coaches are trying to help him get back on course. He has apologized for his actions.....let's cut the guy a break and hope for the best.
