Deshaun Watson's Weight
Jul 21, 2015, 9:05 AM

Serious question -
DW was skinny last season - still looked like a high school player in that regard. Has he gained weight/gotten stronger? Has anyone on here actually seen him? I'm glad to hear his injury's healed - just think he needs to have more bulk to stand up better to defenses.

should you really have to ask that question, he has been here more than a year in our weight room and on our training table.

which is an improvement over last year but not enough. I know he is built different than Tajh but Tajh is shorter than DW and still weighed more than 20 pounds more.

It probably wouldn't have hurt Boyd to lose a few pounds.

I believe he actually did drop some weight for his senior year, if my memory serves me right. He was chunky at one time, but I think I remember him saying he dropped some weight to help his quickness. I would love to see Watson at 215 with his ht and frame. I don't want it to cost him speed or agility, though.

How big does he need to be? Our QB have to weigh as much as our tight ends? DW looks healthy enough to me.

He's dyed his skin and put on some good weight.
Actually that's Jared Lorenzen.
He has put on 10-12 pounds of good weight.

DW was up to 212 last I heard from a friend in the training department. I also saw him at smoking pig a few weeks ago and thought he looked more muscular. He still has a lanky look to him, but that is just his build.

Does it help that I put on about 30 lbs of weight since high school? Ok, actually more like 45 lbs cause I was pretty skinny. It is healthy weight though. I'm healthy, last I checked.

It should be noted that Watson played last season at 190 pounds (which was up from 180 in high school if I remember). They say he's now up to at least 205, maybe 210. if he's put on 15-20 pounds of good weight from last year, I feel comfortable in his ability to stay healthy.

yall do realize he was not hurt by being hit. he had 2 freak injuries that could have happened to anyone. seemed to be just fine taking hits. that being said being bigger and stronger would be a good thing for any athlete. we just cant worry about 4 being in some sort of bubble.

In fact , the knee injury may have come from being too shifty .

True, but generally the more solid players are injured less. Also, you could certainly argue that the broken collarbone he suffered in spring practice came as a result of his weight.

3 injuries...2 freak, 1 common.
1) Collarbone in Spring...one of the most common ones in sports. 2) Finger injury...freak 3) LCL injury/ACL...freak, but then again, also seems it happened on the same knee he injured the MCL on in HS, which was never surgically repaired. So could have also been due to the prior injury that it was hurt so easily.

I've heard from reliable sources that he still had a partial tear of the ACL as a result of his HS injury and that it was believed that it would fully tear at some point.
The wow/scary part of this is that means during his amazing performance last season, Watson was still playing with a partially torn ACL. It sounds as if everything is 100% now, so there's a good chance Watson, along with his mental progression, could be even better physically this year.
