Not many examples. Look at how long it took TN to recover after they fired Fulmer. VT hasn't been as good since they fired Beamer. Bottomline, quality top winning coaches are not grown on trees. The grass is not always greener.

Stoops was forced to retire. Les Miles was pretty consistent at 9-10 wins. Brian Kelly is on the hot seat. Fulmer had one bad season. Lane Kiffin was fired and left in the parking lot at USC DURING a 10 win season. Sark was fired during a season and likely would have had a 9 win season and a 10 win season. As they already said, Richt averaged 10 wins a season when it was a lot harder to do than it is now. Gene Stallings averaged 10 wins, had a championship, and was forced to resign during a 10 win season where they made it to the SEC championship and just barely lost to the eventual national champions. There are tons of examples.

so from your list:
Stoops-Venables (not better yet, trending worse) Miles- Kelley ( about equal, 2 10 win seasons but only 8 this year) Fulmer- Kiffin/Dooley/Jones/Pruitt/Heupel (complete failure for 14 yrs, Heupel doing well) Kiffin/Sark- Helton/Riley (not better to this day) Stallings- Alabama wasnt relevant again until Saban 11 years later Richt- Smart (improvement)
Out of this list, only UGA improved after getting rid of a 10 win coach with the jury still being out on Kelley at LSU as he had 10 wins 2 out of 3 of his years. The rest of the teams were insignificant and setback for over a decade.

Stoops > RILEY > Venables Miles > ORGERON > Kelly
I'm not sure Stoops was actually forced out. Bruce Feldman, who has a good track record reporting big news, had it that Stoops actually made the decision and wanted to retire.
Was Orgeron > Kelly a successful upgrade from Miles? Well LSUs 2019 team is arguably the greatest team of all time so they definitely did get that out of it. Kelly is having about the same level of success Miles did towards the latter parts of his tenure. I think the issue with Les is that he became a bit of a dinosaur and refuses to adapt as football moved away from smash mouth running between the tackled. Sounds kind of familiar to our situation with Dabo to be honest. I don't think Dabo is in any danger of being forced out right now, but if he fails to adapt over the next couple of years he may end up in that position.

I wouldnt count Orgeron as better, similar to Chizich he was a bum coach who had one flash year where the stars aligned and won a title. He should be given credit for it but he was not going to be a consistent winner. I dont think they will be much better with Kelley but will concede that there isnt enough data yet.

No way was LSU the best team ever. Best offense maybe. But we controlled that game until late, and our 2019 squad wasn't a shadow of the 2018 team. Our defense was basically just Simmons in 2019. The power rangers would have butchered Burrow.

Actually, you can safely say all of those coaches were better, except Venables (though Riley was an improvement). You just need a more long-term outlook.
Oklahoma - got rid of Stoops and brought in a guy that took them to multiple playoffs LSU - Replaced Miles with Orgeron who won a title. Kelly looks good too. Tennessee - very long drought but have righted the ship and Heupel appears better than Fulmer Kiffin/Sark - There are a lot of issues with USC and their alumni/boosters, so granted they haven't found that guy yet. Stallings had plateaued, was trending down - They eventually hired the GOAT Richt - Smart is obviously huge
You might well have some setbacks, though not necessarily. But if the program is trending down, your head coach cannot right the ship, and you want to compete for titles, then it's a move that has to be done.

Not one where said coach won 2 National Championships.
This is a ridiculous thought exercise. Who do you think would take this job that will be an upgrade?

I think it’s equally as asinine to believe that out of all the people out there, he is the only one that can do it. I’m tired of being handicapped but it sounds like that’s about to be over.

It's not that he's the only one who can do it. The problem is that the odds of getting someone who can do better are not good.

Replaced by Jim Tressel who won a national title 2 years later. He averaged 8.5 wins but this was with 11 game regular seasons and no conference title games so it's probably equivalent to around 10 wins a season now.

I remember a Nebraska firing Frankie Solich after a nine win season and they have never been the same again. It started when they thought it was a good idea to hire a west coast coach who was going to get those corn fed Midwest boys to buy into a west coat passing offense. When that didn't work, they hired a head case in Bo Pellini, fired him and thought maybe a salad eating, bike riding, electric car driving dude from the northwest was the answer. I guess they are still searching.
