Klubnick and Dj and QB battle next season!
Dec 12, 2021, 1:51 PM
|

This reminds me a lot of when we had Kelly Bryant and Trevor Lawrence came in. I believe the outcome is going to be a lot like that season. Dj likely named the starter to begin the season but Klubnick is simply to good to keep off the field. My guess is just like Lawrence he will come in about the 3rd series of every game and Klubnick might win the starting position by mid season. That’s not saying Dj won’t improve and continue to play some. But I fully expect Klubnick to win the job at some point in the season simply because he does a better job breaking down defenses and throws a more accurate ball. Klubnick= Trevor Lawrence

Kelly B, even with all his faults, was head and shoulders above current DJ. As much as it goes against Dabo’s philosophy up to this point, I’ll be disappointed if Cade can’t grab the starting roll by the first game.

Dabo won't throw a rookie into the fire for a variety...

of reasons; the lease being that the offense develops much slower than a defense to each season. Defenses have an advantage because of this which accentuates the difference.
Starting the first game of the season can crush a true freshman. If we started with a few cupcakes like most many teams across the nation it Dabo might do it. One thing is certain, if Dabo starts Klubnick he may well be as good as Lawrence. I'll have to see it to believe it.

If DJ does not improve the short basic passes then he won’t be starter game 1. If his only problem is that he can’t throw the deep ball we could still work with him but he struggles with 10 yards. KB was very mobile and was decent at the short intermediate passes plus he knew the offense. The only thing DJ has going for him is his knowledge of the offense. That won’t hold off Cade K if he doesn’t make major improvements in the passing game.

Kelly Bryant had some arm limitations but he was a pretty durn good college QB. He just had the misfortune to be Clemson's QB in between Deshaun and Trevor...the fact that he did not completely embarrass himself tells you how good the guy actually was. On a scale of 1-10, he'd be a solid 7, probably closer to an 8.
The problem is, only the 8, 9, and 10's are NFL QB's. He wasn't. Quite. Though he tap-danced around the edges of that.
But the 10's are the first-round QB's, and Kelly Bryant was sandwiched between two of those. Tough gig. His reputation is always going to suffer more than a bit as a result.
DJU...yeesh. He probably belongs in FCS or maybe even D2, unless a really good QB whisperer gets ahold of him. Those claiming he's got Ben Roethlisberger physical tools are not wrong (he does)...but he assuredly is not Big Ben from the neck up, and that's what's killing him. It honestly might be the case a couple years in FCS or D2 restores DJU's confidence and resurrects his career...but he isn't going to cut it at the top end of D1 unless the light just seriously and miraculously comes on for him. BEFORE Cade gets to campus.

The combination of UGA's defense and our O-line broke DJ and turned him into a head case. I'm not sure that even a great QB whisperer could straighten him out unless he also loses 25 lbs (at least) and learns to tap dance.
CK is a completely different QB talent. He has terrific footwork, makes good decisions quickly, rolls out when he should and throws with accuracy. He has all the tools to be another DW or TL.

If true we better recruit another QB to be our back up. DJ will be gone and then it will be Helms and Wiles. Taylor will be forced to WR being we are not looking very strong based on the article on TNET.

Good point. Unfortunately, based on no other QB offers currently, I’m guessing Dabo has “promised” to take only Cade in this class and I don’t think Dabo will take a transfer at that position for multiple reasons.

Watch the ESPN adulation when DJU leaves for the PAC…

…they will LOVE that he has left Clemson for a “respectable program” that will treats him with respect and understands how to coach a QB.
The ESPN Heisman campaign for DJU at that point will be OFF THE CHARTS when that happens.
It will not matter if he is in the bottom quartile of QBR.
I predict the rhetoric heaped upon CDS will be withering.

Can't wait for the spring game
Dec 12, 2021, 7:17 PM

Kelly Bryant was so nervous during that spring game I felt bad for him. He couldn't do hardly anything right. At least he calmed down enough to be effective during the first 4 games. If Klubnick is a quick study, he'll definitely be the starter by game 5 (IMO).
The first red flag for me was when Dabo never tossed a compliment DJ's way during spring practice. DJ's lack of dedication to improvement after last season speaks volumes. If Klubnick is ready, he will win the starting job during the year.

I hope we get the old DJ back. This summer he was doing interviews where he talked about being a future top 10 NFL draft pick and what teams he wanted to play for. I think he lost focus with all that talk and NIL deals. I dont think anyone denies he showed talent last year and high school.

I think you are right, but I believe there is even more. It's intangible to some degree but something has been off with the team at least since the end of last season. Here's hoping that all of this swings back to the positive in 2022. Clemson fans should expect nothing less.

DJ and KB are not even in the same league. One has generational arm talent and the other was a good athlete playing QB. DJ will improve next year, hopefully, he takes advantage of the summer and irons out the kinks in his mechanics, midseason was not a good time for this, but there was improvement. He is also a good team player and does not get down on himself and let a mistake beat him 2x, that is the mark of a winner.
And I am not discounting the notion that eventually, Klubnick wins the job, but there is no way of knowing until he gets here in the spring. It is far too early to make that prediction.

I have hope DJ improves but the skillset Cade has is just superior if you compare them today. Cade throws with timing and drops the ball down into the receiver where he can only catch it. He looks like a young pro compared to the fastballs DJ throws. We all know DJ has talent. He showed it last year. IMO competition brings out the best in him which we didn't have this year with our backup coming off injury.

I think it is tough for a true freshman to beat out a third-year player with DJ's talents, but that is not to say I do not agree with you on CK, he seems to be a competitor with a sense of urgency in everything he does. But he is a man among boys right now, and we will have to wait and see how quickly he picks up the offense and adjusts to football at this level. In the case of Lawrence, we had a national championship-caliber team around him and Bryant had limitations that prevented us from opening up the playbook. The coaches took a gamble here and it paid off.
And I am no expert, but my feeling was that the coaches were attempting to correct some issues in his mechanics that caused him to hesitate and it threw off his timing. I also seem to recall as many dropped balls as bad throws from DJ, as well as major issues with pass protection early in the year. I do not think it fair to lay this season at his feet, we had a lot of issues early on. Pitt also happened to be a very good team this year, NcState was a disaster of a game, and UGA was winnable.

I'm rooting for DJ. The best thing for the team is for him to take that next step and if possible let Cade redshirt.

He also fumbled against Florida St with 7 minutes left for a touchdown that gave them the lead. Luckily we finished strong. Lots of room for improvement.

Best case scenario: DJ puts this year behind him, balls out, is a Heisman Frontrunner and lives up to his billing allowing Cade to spend a year as the primary backup before DJ gets a 1st round NFL grade and goes pro turning ver the Offense to a well prepared Cade in 2023.
Next best case: Cade wins the starting job, DJ stays and decides to concentrate on baseball as his primary career goal while serving as a more than capable backup QB.
More likely, Cade wins the job and DJ hits the portal but I’m sincerely hoping for one of the other options. DJs a good kid and has represented CU well and with a lot of class. I’d hate to see him leave unless he’s headed to the League.

I am concerned at this point that some deep pocket program does not find a way to sign Cade to a 3 million NIL.
We may not be out of the woods yet folks.

I think DJ will be given every advantage by the coaches to win the starting job next season, and i don't think he will be as bad as last season, Cade will have to really look spectacular to win the job.

Cade is coming in January and he will know the play book by the Spring Game. However, for some unknown reason, Dabo refuses to bench DJ even when he is playing badly.. We need some competition at QB. Cade will bring that but we still need another QB in case of injury in my opinion.

Hope learns from his past mistakes although not many in his coaching caress. Without BV defenses now he can't make wrong QB choices. Kelly was started when at least 2 backout QBs better didn't hurt as much with BV defense. Yes Kelly got to semi but out of depth versus Alabama but never thought of back uptimes QB to possibly win. Alabama used a backup QB to Beat UGA for Natty. Lawrence should have started day one. Same with Cade 2022. If Cade starts from day 1 and plays at least 3 quarters per games Freshman win Heisman
