The top 10 ranking is of course dependent upon who does the listing. Most of these guys with a few exceptions show up on just about every top 10 list. Consensus seems to be that we could end up with 2 of the top 10 and the Coots 6. The draw of the SEC and four consecutive losses are the reason for this. USUC does not have a better recruiting staff, but the SEC brand and their success against us has caused us to be unable to sign many top ten in state players these last 4 or 5 years.

Not necessarily the best in SC, which isn't exactly a fertile FB factory like Florida or even Georgia.

How can a kid grow up in SC and not have a definite opinion
Feb 15, 2013, 9:01 AM

regarding USuC vs. Clemson?
I just can't see that a kid could be a "toss up" between the two. I think anyone that says that is probably just juggling for the best offer from the one he really wants. Just like Clowney wanted USuC the whole time and Nuk wanted Clemson, if it comes down to the two in state rivals I think everyone already knows who they want.

It's probably best for them not to show their hand yet

They've got more leverage up until the point they commit. Some will still pursue them, but many will back off and stop paying attention to them.

Are they juggling for the "best" offer, or just more offers?

How much of an 'offer' can they get from a school? Maybe they can be promised to not red shirt, or to play a certain position they want, but I doubt any coaching staff will stick to that if it doesn't work out for the team as a whole.
Another angle might be that you give a team hope (SCar over Clemson or vice-versa) so that they don't recruit your position too heavily. But I wonder how effective that would be if you don't commit. Of course, committing is pretty meaningless these days.

and even if they were, that's not how they choose where to play. I keep seeing this misconception about recruits and how they pick schools. It isn't about being a fan or not being a fan, it's mostly about the relationships with the coaches and the way the school sells itself.

Have to somewhat disagree ...

To the contrary, I think almost all high school football players in South Carolina are big college football fans.
I also think that almost every one of them that grew up in the Palmetto state has a definite favorite between Clemson and SCAR.
Now, when it comes time to choose a college where they will play, if they are a high enough profile recruit, they may be swayed by a big name school out of state.
But if they have offers from both Clemson and SCAR and they want to stay in state to play in college, there is little doubt in my mind that they are going to choose their favorite from growing up.
I don't believe more than a very slight percentage of HS players grow up in this state exposed to the rivalry and are still honestly "on the fence" when NSD arrives.

Not every one in the state is a SC or CU fan..... the DT from Pendleton was Ohio state fan. Some are GaT fans and UNC fans and VaT fans.... and more... others are not fans of any college.

Some make their college decision base on educational opportunity. That is a big draw for Vanderbilt and Stanford. But the coaches and how they connect with the recruit is the biggest decision even though we lost a few this year because they were going to go to school with their friends.

play twice last season, and the only thing that was impressive was his arm strength. He was wildly inaccurate and forced most of his passes into coverage.
I guess those things can be taught though...

I saw him get absolutely worked over by Wando. Kid had a terrible attitude on the sidelines when his team was losing as well. Dunno what people see in this kid.

Could be a big reason why neither of the in state schools have offered. It's not every year SC produces a BCS caliber QB recruit. Says a lot when there is one and both schools pass.

two big nasty's other than that don't really need any of the others and are leading for players out of state who are much better at those positions with limited schollies. I would like Crosby to keep the Bamberg pipeline flowing but he's dead set on playing TE and I'd rather have Blazevich who will probably commit to us in June anyway leaving us with no need for another TE.
